What is it with the stadium announcer , everytime the IRA song is sung, it's classed as racist/sectarian chanting ....

Now it was the BBC that called it sectarian and the famous Celtic say its not, so why o why does it have to be announced about racist chanting .... the IRA or Catholis are not a race for one ..... so it confuses the hell out of ne, then they post a YouTube clip of the game with the fans singing this song ... now is it just me or is this announcer a bit of a plum.

Can someone share some light on this please.

I just think it's a stupid chant for Barnsley fans to be singing, I don't get it. I don't think the IRA ever really had it in for Cundy Cross, and I've never seen any Pope declare war on Wath. Half of these people are kids who don't have the slightest idea what they're even singing about; they just know the 'authorities' don't like it. Which just means when they get told off for it they belt it out louder. Half of them honestly couldn't even tell you the IRA were Irish.

I was think it's the Pope bit that's the problem. The IRA are a political organisation.

I think Sinn Fein is the political wing of the IRA - they are a terrorist group

Even if they are a terrorist organisation, they're still a political group.

You wouldn’t get away with singing “ fk Mohammed and Hezbollah” as it’s condemning an entire religion based on the actions of a terrorist group. Same thing here.

Telling them off for it just made them sing it louder.

They aren't worried about consequences of their actions because for all the tanoy announcements we never publicly hear in the press or on the official website of people getting in to trouble for it or pictured in the press to be named and shamed.

They treat the tanoy speech as hot air with no substance.

If it goes around the world via TV or internet it just shows what oiks some of us are. Not a reflection of the Barnsley people who are of a sound mind.

The song is offensive to some and not others. I really don't lose any sleep over it.

But the announcement, Whether seen as a waste of time or not. The club got fined for not being Pro active enough. At least they can't be accused of that by the authorities.

Dont blame the announcer as hes just doing his job. The EFL dictate we do this. I do think its a bit barmy but then I also think its barmy that we sing it in the first place.

I don't think the IRA, in any of its guises, would have been able to function if the criteria for involvement included having to be Irish!

Going back to it's foundation they've always been a military organisation rather than political

I’m really struggling to understand your point. If you are referring to the diaspora in the USA, then they would argue that any funding provided was justified by their Irish roots. Or perhaps you are referring to Gadaffi? The reality was that the overwhelming majority of what they would term ‘operatives’ were indeed Irish people.

Leeds fans have their own version of our infamous Mambo Diaby song with the exact same reference to one of their players having a massive ****. They were singing it last night............ Absolutely no warnings there!
