Just spend MORE money. Weve sold 8 million quids worth of talent. They don't care about us.

    The usual twitter experts.

Football is in such a sad state of affairs.

It was interesting what Jon was saying about an announcement in the next 48 hours about football governance and how the football regulator could mean money is shared more fairly.

Sky Sports will eventually kill Football everywhere except the big city clubs and maybe the one or two smaller ones with mega rich owners. The FA thought they were taking complete control of Football when the sanctioned the creation of the PL instead they created two symbiotic monsters Sky Sports and the PL which have completely sidelined the FA and bullied the EFL clubs into submission by taking more control each passing year.

"To those mathematicians in the room... *dramatic pause* ...you can see that we've a slight problem"

In the league table of announcements of problems, that's second only to Jack Swigert* calling Houston.

*He didn't actually say the famous line, it's misquoted, what he said isn't nearly as cool.

I reckon Flatman should be in show business. It wouldn't have been any more dramatic if he'd accompanied it with jazz hands.

Was just coming here to post the same.

    Sobering.

    I see two ways out:
    1) The academy starts delivering first team players and saleable assets, this a way to reduce our wage bill and close the gap
    2) The academy will be up for the chop

It was my first time attending the Fans Forum and it was very encouraging to hear from the chairman who seems a decent bloke with a genuine feeling for the club. The financial aspects of the running of the club were explained well and openly I feel, as were the fan experience and hospitality. I only asked one question about why as a club proud of its tradition were we now after a hundred years playing in all red and not in red and white?
The CEO said it was well documented why by Julie and then the subject was also brought about the pink away kit. So at break time I asked other fans why not white shorts as from what somebody answered it was due to the woman's team. However leeds utd, blackpool and other ladies clubs don't seem to have any problem with white shorts. Later it was asked if the club loans players from the premium league Barnsleyfc were contractually bound to play them in games to which the answer was no. The price of booze n food inside was discussed but we were assured it is in line with other clubs. The a sense of Daryl Clarke was explained by the board that despite DC saying he would attend those present thought he had too much to do already. The number of coaches is in line with other clubs in our league. The return to the press is work in progress. That's about all that comes to mind

I may be in the minority but as soon as I heard him going on about those figures I felt as tho I was being told a sob story and fed it to try and feel sorry for them.

They face the same obstacles as every club in League one atm. Most clubs are in debt throughout all the leagues. Although the explanation was great and gave me a better insight…..I don’t feel why they needed to address this with us.

Just get it right on the damn field and in the player and staff department. That’s all I want as a fan.

When you make so many bad choices…..questions get asked about all sorts. Some are logical…..some down right silly. They didn’t need to address it.

It’s an excuse cos they know how rubbish things are atm.

Explain how well Lincoln, Stockport, Wycombe and Mansfield are well run at the minute who don’t have the money we have through ticket sales, transfer fees or sponsorship. What they have is someone at the top making some great decisions in the day to day running of those clubs and fantastic recruitment at costs that are a shadow of what we as a club pay.

He got it right by explaining that if the football is good on the pitch then everything else feels good. You get that by good decision making…..something they need to improve on.

Thanks for the updates - appreciated. Being honest though, if amongst all other issues, people can get exercised about red or white shorts then there's something wrong with supporters priorities....

Agreed - less of an issue if it’s pennies, but I’d imagine it’s upwards of £1M/year.

My dream would be for a home grown team, and a reputation for developing talents and giving them opportunities enough to give us the pick of kids from a larger area. I think Patrick said something similar once, but it’s hit and miss who makes the step up in recent years.

I’d imagine those ‘well run’ clubs get better value for money on signings and player contracts. It’s worth appreciating that it’s the getting the structure and individuals right off the pitch that can deliver the successes on it. Far easier to be critical than to deliver change and results.

Did he say that there is no contractual penalty to not paying them though or simply that we don't HAVE to? I seem to remember that Liverpool operated a system where loaning clubs had to pay one fee if they played the player and a larger fee if they didn't.

Nobody consulted the fans on the change on the clubs change of home kit from red and white to red shirts and shorts, it was just done.
How many other clubs have made similar changes? Remember Cardiff City changing to red shirts from blue at a chairman's whim. They soon changed back to blue due to fan pressure.

I’d prefer white shorts to fit tradition, but I wasn’t going to buy or wear some anyway.

If it is an issue for the women’s team then I don’t think tradition overrides that.

The women chose to wear a very very very light grey (almost white) pair of shorts in a home game recently

One of the more interesting discussion points was that Brexit has made teams look more to the domestic market, and that there are more scouts from Manchester City in Barnsley and Huddersfield than from those clubs. While the owners reiterated their commitment to the academy, you do have to wonder how viable it is.
