Bang on that's the one I was looking for, Hull City doesn't exist it's actually Kingston Upon Hull, as you say Hull being the River.

That's a place. They haven't played in that place in over 100 years but the place does exist.

No because Brighton still exists as a place its not a name that's not representative of a place e g Port Vale which isn't a name of a real place but a name given to a valley of ports on the trent and mersey canal

and to go completely o/t (part 1)
The New Saints (ground in Oswestry England) who play in the Cymru Premiership at one time were called Total Network Solutions which was the only UK example of a Club being named after its sponsors.

TNS play Asanta (Kazakhstan) in the UEFA Conference League on 24 Oct.

    continuing o/t (part2)
Newport Co, Wrexham, Cardiff City and Swansea applied to represent Cymru in the UEFA League but applications would only be considered if they left Football League and were admitted to Cymru Premiership - not likely to happen!

continuing o/t (part 3) - Craig Bellamy - brilliant choice as Cymru's manager.
with apologies for banging on about Cymru yet again!

I know there is a village called Everton so it is a place - its just down the road from Bawtry. But wasn't sure if it's an actual place in Liverpool.

Changed its name to Arsenal after the football club in the 1930’s.

Technically ‘Notts’ is an official shortened name for the county of Nottinghamshire in the same way that Yorks, Lancs, Northants, etc are. So Notts County is named after a place and I don’t think that one counts.

So was Aston Villa ...not used today but if you look at old maps of Birmingham, Aston Villa is marked....somewhere near the Lozells Rd area.

If we're including Scotland - Queen of the South. Only team in the UK named after a person in the Bible.
