", if you look at the underlying data, we’re doing a lot better than our league position suggests and we’ve seen improvement steadily over the season."
"we will be better than average in League One this season. We will finish top half of the table for sure. We have looked at a lot of numbers and we have a squad that is easily top six quality.”
Somebody needs to tell this lot that you don't win football matches because the of data and numbers on a spreadsheet you win them on the pitch by showing fight and ability on the pitch and in the dugout. Whatever the data says the performances on the pitch have been dire at times and even when performances as a team have been better individual errors have cost the club precious points.

To be fair, the use of data isn't a stick to beat the club with. Everyone does it. Hours and hours are spent pouring over data at all levels. It's why nobody leaves a man on the halfway line at corners. It's why there's not a man on the post. It's why teams use zonal defence at corners.

It's all data driven for better or worse.

Don't care what the numbers say, not leaving a man to receive an out ball is barmy. If it gets cleared it's coming straight back.

3 clean sheets in 42 L1/Play-Off games - how much more effin' 'data' do they need?

The only team we've kept a league clean sheet against at Oakwell in 2024 is Clarke's Cheltenham!

It must be a huge millstone around the team's neck to know that they have to score two and three goals virtually every game to even be in with a sniff of winning.

Am I the only one who finds the words coming out of the boardroom to be a bit depressing? What makes it worse is that I think it’s pretty realistic. You have to ask the question whether supporting a lower division club is worthwhile. Of course after 65 years it’s a bit late now and despite the boards opinion we’ve had some amazing success and some great days at Wembley.

Club with no ambition actually stating it’s got no ambition to punch above it’s weight. The exact opposite of the Barnsley fc I grew up supporting.

They don't need to try and buy them out. Every season (til they realise the folly of it) they are going to generate millions of pounds of new shares which dilutes the Lee/PMG stake further, given Lee and Conway haven't taken their options on each new share issue. Their stake has fallen to just 7% in a couple of seasons.

Trotting out news bites - I am glad I gave up a long time ago. Barnsley FC is boring led by people saying boring things. I am also glad I gave up caring a long time ago as it makes things all so much easier. Going nowhere but backwards.

You'd think the team and coaches would try and do a bit more to remove that millstone then, in fairness

Not sure it's why people don't use man marking as much unless stats prove that less goals are conceded via zonal marking. It's always one that makes me laugh when you concede using zonal people say should be man marking asif goals are never conceded via man marking.

But it will be statistically proven that it's better to have every man back. The extra body in the box probably saves so many more percentages of goals than if there's a bloke on the halfway line. Otherwise they wouldn't do it. Pep does it. Klopp does it.

Yeah i can't stand zonal marking. It makes little sense to me, as a bloke with a running start will always he able to attack a ball and jump higher than a bloke standing still in a zone.

It's something that must work though, otherwise it wouldn't exist.

Couldn’t agree more, but this tactic is not exclusive to current BFC team, nor to many other teams. Struggling to remember the last H/C to consistently leave anyone further up the pitch when defending corners and set-pieces.

Aren’t we meant to be attempting to not follow a blueprint that every one else does with players worth millions and millions more than ours. I would also think means it also inhibits our chances of going down the other end and creating an opportunity too cos there’s no stats on that cos no else does it so it mustn’t work etc.

Data this, data that. data my arse, anyone who follows Barnsley knew at the start of the season we needed a striker no striker no top six as simple as that.

There will be stats on that though, there's stats on everything. If it didn't work, then nobody would do it. It's the same in every sport. Data is analysed by people for cleverer than any of us. The edges are so small and minute that they'll be difficult to spot from match to match, but will have been proven over thousands of games.

Who do you think he will play is there a serious alternative to Solena unfortunately we have one option and he's no better. On the bigger point I agree we will finish in to top half of the table simply because there's some proper rubbish in this league top six I hope he's right but I very much doubt it.

‘To blindly trust in the data without treating it with caution and wariness is a fool’s errand, and will simply lead to useless, if not outright wrong, results.’

    Forbes

‘Even if the data is 100% accurate, it can only tell us what is happening; not why. Without a human layer of understanding, data is void of context and nuance. Numbers only make sense once we have discovered the underlying human emotions, behaviours and motivations.’
