I think the loanee striker I’m thinking of who played at the same time as O’Grady was Pederson. Got it all wrong with the dates though. It’s hard to believe Wood was playing for us under Robins, that feels a lifetime ago

In my opinion for what its worth Marshy ought to be getting more than a nibble
he needs more minutes on the pitch, to come good
He also needs a big man knocking the ball down, so he has something to run on to, then watch him score goals
Under used by DC afraid to say

It obviously costs a lot to run. But Premier League cash puts a big dent into it. Around a million pound per year of funding, plus a few hundred grand into the community trust. This was part of the EPPP agreement a few years ago when they (Prem clubs) were allowed to pinch academy players for peanuts in return for guaranteed funding contributions.

Wood has scored 7 goals from his last 8 shots.

    Its an incredibly lucky run.

    Fair play to him.

Off the top of my head, a few players who developed after leaving us that we arguably gave up on too early.

Think you're being extremely harsh calling him lucky, mate. 14 in 31 games last season for forest. 4 years at Burnley in double digits for goals. Smashed it at Leeds in his couple of seasons theres. We'd be raving about him being clinical had it been one of our lads

He's had a few failed loan spells and when he's been given a chance never looked good enough imo. He tries alot though can't knock him for that. But on the flip side we keep persistenting with Cosgrove so why not give Marsh or jalo more of a chance.

    I cant believe we've had

    Wood
    Jay Rodriguez
    Trippier
    Drinkwater
    Brownhill

At our club. Many more im sure...

As stated above, we shouldn't write any of our young ones off yet

On Marsh, I also think he'd score some goals if he had some proper game time. He's not fast or strong enough to be a real handful but I think he could be a fox in the box type. He's scored a few goals in these odd appearances he's had, which is more than a lot of players have done!

And don’t forget Toney, this is why we should be prepared to be patient with Jalo because he’s still so much to learn and hopefully he learns with us and we can reap the rewards on the pitch , for me there’s no rush.

Young lads who came to us temporarily to get the minutes needed to aid their development. And that’s the point. We’re lessening our chances of seeing such as Marshy or Fabio making it by not giving them requisite game time, either with us or on loan somewhere. In my opinion.

To be fair, this has been tried twice with Marsh at 4th and 5th tier level and he has struggled for significant game time. I dont disagree though. They need games and goals.

I said its a lucky run - nobody scores at that rate.

7 in 8 shots is a lot different to 14 in 31 games.

Going off who scored. Com website. Including league Cup and league one fixtures only. It doesn't take into account the football league trophy. So far this season.

    Marsh 378 minutes 0 goals 0 assists

    Jalo. 178 minutes 0 goals 1 assist

    Cosgrove 784 minutes 1 goal 2 assists.

You could agree cosgroves had a run of games so gives him the advantage over 10 minutes here and there as a sub.

Love that website, gives you a good detailed statement. Now put Max Watters in...

    It'll blow your mind.

A few people have said this but it isn’t true.

He went on loan to Scunthorpe started the first couple of games & then got injured & returned here.

Went to York on a months loan. Started a couple, off the bench in others & we recalled him due to injuries & he famously came straight into the side at Horsham.

I can’t say whether these sort of kids are going to be good enough to make it at BFC. But hoarding them to appear in a trophy that ends in October or occasionally make the bench and even more occasionally get a few minutes, is not going to speed up their development.

People have said it because its correct.

He was on the bench in 5 of 8 games that he was there and of those 5 games from the bench he played a grand total of 47 minutes, and in 2 of them didnt get on at all. In the 3 he started he didnt get past the 67 minute mark.

So an attacking player goes on loan & is involved in all 8 games & then we recall him & put him straight in our side & that’s deemed a failure?

I don’t really understand the point you’re making.

Isn’t the point of a short term loan exactly that?

We had four strikers at the time who were all fit so there was no room for him in our matchday squad.

York probably had an injury or two & needed a bit of cover, he then comes back to us when we needed him with a bit more match fitness.

You’re portraying it as if it’s an Oli Shaw season long loan that’s been a disaster.
