Can anyone explain to me why they brought out the safety car because of a wet track when I think at the time something like 25 cars were on inters and half the grid had literally just come into the pits to put on those inters instead of wets oh and lawson had just put wets on and was flying around 10 seconds a lap faster with no grip problems at all. Seems bonkers to me that a safety car is brought out when there's a wet tyre unused in the garage
Not really an explanation but for whatever reason, the sport seems to have a real reluctance to use the wet tyres. I guess it’s with safety in mind maybe. I suppose the safety car was possibly justified as don’t Colapinto bin it in the wall either during the safety car or shortly after? I honestly can’t remember as so much happened. As much as I’m not a Verstappen fan, he was brilliant today. Basically in a league of his own. Big shout out to the 2 Alpine drivers too.
That annoyed me too. Drivers complaining that it was dangerous and they needed a safety car yet almost all on inters. Meanwhile, the ones that had gone onto wets got their advantage for being sensible taken away.
The Wet tyres have been poor for a while now so the teams are reluctant to use them. I had the same thought with everyone on inters. The wets would have in theory moved the water quicker, that said the main issue was actually visibility and not grip. I believe it was deployed when Hulk got stuck though the Marshalls ended up helping him (which didn't work out so well) On a separate note I have to say that was a true champions drive by Max. Put himself in the position to take advantage of the opportunity that came his way. He was also spot on about the delayed Red flag this morning in quali that cost him. Deserving winner today.
The visibility was the dangerous issue that triggered the safety car - the spray if anything would have been worse with the full wets.
Ah well, at least everyone's favourite xenophobe managed to ensure the British drivers got away with multiple rule breaches today.
