the Cambridge site is offering home tickets-which means little as they can just postpone and give refunds https://www.venuetoolbox.com/cambridgeunited/asp/selectArea.asp?bookEvent=true&eventID={A6C8771B-B8A5-49BA-B2BF-2696BE8F0932}&homeArea=home
Cambridge should have played Bolton in the first break-it was postponed and rearranged for Nov 26th Cambridge United's home Sky Bet League fixture against Bolton Wanderers has been postponed due to international call-ups from both teams... The fixture, originally scheduled to take place on Saturday 7 September, will now take place on Tuesday 26 November at 7:45pm.
I do like your idea I just think it could cause a lot of problems with players from lesser nations not getting signed as they might get called up & players from bigger nations getting priority. Players could argue restriction of trade & it could even end up in the courts.
Should be at least 5 international players and those who are only called up to represent the breastfeeding 11 for their country shouldn't count. In fact it's bonkers that the kids international friendlies take place at the same time as the adults. Should be a different weekend to eliminate these ******** cancellations because jalo is in Portugal at day care
I hope that the Cambridge game goes ahead as already booked the ferry from the Isle of Man. Just waiting to purchase a couple of tickets. This is proper international travel as the Isle of Man is not part of the UK!
Players from lesser nations have more difficulty getting work permits anyway. A Spanish international would take minutes to get approval, while a Gibraltarian might takes weeks if they even got one.
Tickets have gone on sale this afternoon, with no mention of international call ups...not sure how to interpret that. You'd hope they'd only put tickets on sale if they were reasonably confident of the game being on on the current date, but I'm not convinced
Quite right, we never had international breaks in the 70s and 80s. But then something happened, what was it? Oh yes, the effing Premier League...
I still think it will be called off. Shocked at £29 quid on the coach. Arsenal fans only got charged £25 last weekend all the way to Newcastle.
I can't see how both clubs can't put "subject to international call ups". Surely it's not difficult, and then covers their backs. There'll be folk from both clubs buying in good faith. Odd.
Cambridge have 3 full internationals in Shayne Lavery ( N.Ire), Sullay Kaikai (Sierra Leone) and Connor O'Riordan (Rep.Ire) who have all been regularly called up to their countries squads. All 3 countries have games. Can't see how this is going ahead. Edit.....Lavery is out with a hamstring injury, so won't be called up. Game on Direct train tickets still £24. Nice one!
If it’s about revenue perhaps an unaffected team should be compensated by FA so if game was postponed due to one club the other would not be financially penalised.
Biggest issue with squads like Rugby etc is the clubs have too much power. Imagine if say Liverpool missed out on the league by a couple of points and were able to point to a fixture during an international break that they dropped points cos they had a ‘harder’ fixture than the winner so we’re at an unfair advantage.
Maybe the answer is to have cup games for these dates, that way fewer clubs would be affected as would be out anyway.
From a Cambridge perspective, the announcements to watch are the Chile national team (Reyes), the Sierra Leone national team (Kaikai) and the Republic of Ireland U21s (O'Riordan).
