I don't wear a poppy. I haven't bought one for probably a decade and won't again. Its not that I don't support our veterans - although I do think the government has a responsibility to look after the troops - but I can't support a charity that makes a profit every year and holds over £400m in assets.

Eh? Money has nothing to do with it, I’ve already said I wear a poppy and have other merch from the RBL, I do that because I want to not because I should

So basically your problem is that the charity doesn't spend what it receives.

"The RBL's reserves are in line with most charities of its size, and the charity has run a deficit budget for the past two years." AI tells me that.

If it did spend all its cash would you change your view?

You don't support our veterans if you don't contribute somehow or other- where you get this "It's not that I don't support our veterans" I do not know. You don't buy a poppy and therefore you do not support them, unless you're up to something else.

The RBL run other commercial services that is not ‘ military’ related. I used to work for a govt dept, that used a service they provided with things such as work station assessments for folk with various disabilities/conditions. Not sure if any ‘profits’ are included in their ‘reserves’

Who do you think you are trying to dictate what charities and causes people should support? Support whoever you want or don't, but this trying to act like you're better than anyone because they choose to support different charities (or no charities at all, that's their choice) is not on.

There's plenty of worthy causes out there. NO ONE should be judged on which ones they choose to donate to and which ones they don't.

I think he turned his back last time he was at oakwell for Stoke. I can understand his reasons and no problem if he doesn't want to wear one but the way he goes about things he just comes across as a bellend.

I would consider coming off social media.
You're either following the wrong people or simply searching for things to get offended by.

I think you'll find that in the last published annual report of 2023, expenditure outstripped income by £185m to £147m

I further think you'll find that of the £350m (not 400m) of assets in the latest annual report, £79m is the carrying value of care homes and £66m the value of properties associated with British Legion social clubs. Furthermore, another £113m of those assets have restrictions on how they can be used; they were donated for a specific purpose, or they must only be used in a specific geographical region as a condition of them being granted, or they are held by individual member clubs etc.

£60m is set aside for emergency use therefore only the remaining £29m of the reported £350m is actually available to spend.

Don’t know why he or any other ‘objector’ doesn’t discreetly leave the pitch sit on the bench and then re-enter just before KO, most wouldn’t even notice that

I don't tend to wear a poppy these days. I think the noise about wearing/not wearing one has got out of hand.

I don't bother, its become too political. I really don't know why its become obligatory to have a thing at the football for it. I'm sure it wasn't always a thing.
