Judging by this chart, Biden definitely shouldn't have stood down. The Democrats would have strolled to victory if he had hung around with him being clearly the most popular presidential candidate in recent years.

Rod Liddle is an odious shapeshifter… perhaps best characterised by saying he is accurately living his true self, a stereotypical millwall fan.

We already have done . Cheap Chinese imported steel has led to the demise of UK steel production over many years .
Plus governments bailing the chinese/indians out whilst ruining the industry beggars belief .
The cost of that should have been taken out of foreign aid for those countries .

2020 was just an outlier in terms of turnout. It was a lot easier to drive turnout against trump while he was in office, compared to this year. Coupled with the fact that it was impossible to ignore politics due to Covid. Biden would have done even worse than Kamala this year. His approval ratings are shockingly bad. So much so that I think his approval rating massively hurt Kamala too just by association.

Yeah, I think it's an insult to Kamala to suggest Biden would have done better, and go as far as saying he'd win - he wouldn't. After that disastrous debate, he was done, it was over (even though they should have admitted it long before that debate), but they did it wrong. Should have had a primary.

Behave yourself. Even if we assume a fixed election last time around, are you seriously suggesting that the international conspiracy couldn't have come up with anybody better to bring in the new world order than Joe Biden?

And what went wrong this time? If they can make sure elections turn out how they want, did they just decide to sit this one out?

I think this is the crux of it. I personally find Trump a disgusting, repulsive person on a few levels but he tapped into peoples genuine fears about their standard of living and levels of immigration. Many are struggling, just like here. Its all well and good wanting Harris to have won, like I did, but really she and the Democrats didn't reach people in the same way as Trump. Concerns about female rights are good, concerns about democracy are good but they dont resonate in the same way as bread and butter issues do. Harris said little about the economy and little about immigration. She was also thrown into the ring too late which also didn't give her enough time to think through any policies. She did quite well in the circumstances I suppose but as you've said, if large swathes of people feel their day-to-day lives are crap they'll look around for something else. Authoritarians/fascists/'strong men' lap this up all day long. Trump has done very well.

    Hi @KingBenny92

You didn't respond to the evidence of Trump being racist.

Just making sure you didn't miss it.

    Cheers.

You look at any country which seems to have its shìt together globally and you'll find they all have one thing in common - proportional representation.

Nope, I don’t hate Trump supporters (though given his history I’ll never understand why you would be) I just hate Trump.

I think exit polls were tracking at around 45% of people saying they felt poorer then before the last election, only around 20% said they felt better off, pretty much every incumbent government which was in charge during the inflation spike has since lost power. Couple that with the nonsense over Biden and Harris being anointed 100 days before the election and it was always an uphill battle, that's before you look at the issues on illegal immigration and the culture wars. Again, its worth remembering 1/3 of all BAME voters voted for Trump, the so-called controversy over puerto rico - the majority of Latino voters voted trump and puerto rico itself elected a Republican Governor.

Yet, Biden's approval ratings beat Trumps on every metric.

"Latinos" is a big group. Its like saying "Asians" here. There is a big difference between Cubans, Venezuelans, Mexicans, Puerto Ricans, etc., just like there is a big difference between people from India, Pakistan, Vietnam and China.

A politician here who came out and said India was a dump might attract voters from Pakistan and Bangladesh - and if he praised it could repel voters from China.

Ultimately, 76% of the American public believed the country was going in the wrong direction - it was always going to be an uphill battle, especially by someone who got soundly rejected in the 2020 primaries and has such a low approval rating. Huge error from the dems and all we can do is hope it won't be as disastrous as some fear.
