Just dropped on Barnsley Ladies on Academy with my little lass. She's then asking where there is for her age (6) to play. Anybody any idea? Can't really find any other than U10/U11 which she'd be too small for. Ta.
It's mixed teams at that age. You'll not find a girls only team until she's into double figures and even then they are few and (time and petrol consumingly) far between. My friend's niece who goes to Oakwell with us plays girls under 15s and to get a league together they had to cast the net wide, meaning 40- to 50-mile trips to away games occur regularly. My youngest son played u7s through u9s in the Barnsley league and the majority of teams had a couple of girls in. If you can find a nearby team with space for more players, get her involved. If she's still interested in 5 years then say goodbye to your weekends and get her joined up in a girls team.
Depends on your geography. I know the West Riding Girls league definitely has a thriving U7s set up. No idea where the closest team to tarn is though. Try www.wrgfl.org and if you go into the "age group" view pages should be some pointers on there
There are loads of girls only teams below “double figure age”. My u9 girl plays in the Sheffield and Hallam Girls league, theres 3 leagues in her age group with about 26 teams in total, including Barnsley Ladies, Pogmoor and North Gawber
Have a look here pal: https://www.shwgl.co.uk/clubs.php Not many u7 options, but if she's 6 already she can play up to u8.
Dodworth Miners Welfare have an under 7s team and a team at every age group up to under 18s before they progress to the adult team. I believe every team below under 11s is mixed and my mate who takes his kid down there said there's way more girls than boys. This is very much second hand information, but I trust my friend and he thought it was a really good set up. https://dmwjfc.co.uk/
North Gawber has a growing girls section: https://www.ngcfc.co.uk/teams/north-gawber-wildcats-(age-6-11-girls) Chloe Goodman is the female teams development officer: https://ngcfc.co.uk/ClubContacts.aspx
Leagues start at U7. If you sign her up to somewhere like Kixx for a bit while you get sorted and get her into playing as not all teams will have space currently. Then go on Facebook and search for Sheffield Girls Football Group - join that and post for any teams looking. Wakey also have one. Loads of teams out there, just got to go on the Facebook groups.
Don't bet on it mate. My little girl started playing when she was 8 in lockdown and proper got the bug. Now she's got little time for anything else! Girls football is absolutely thriving
It absolutely is. For my sins I'm head of the girls section at Horsforth St Margarets FC and we have 36 girls teams from U7s through to three at open age. Peaks around U9-U11 when we have 5-6 teams in each age group. Its mental the growth from when my daughter started in 2015 and it was one team cobbled together to cover two age groups. Waiting lists galore and it's a lack of pitches stopping us forming more teams. Great to see. Even dirty Leeds getting on board now and playing the odd game at Bellend Road which is a sea change from when Cellino basically disbanded them.
