It's 2024 and yet we still give tax breaks to a paedophilic, child abusing organisation

Not only that but our national anthem is based completely around the organisation and it is taught as fact in primary schools throughout the land.

Religion and in particular the hypocrisy and basic **** sucking of the UK to the church of England and Christianity makes me sick.

If the government had any balls they'd defund and cut adrift the church with immediate effect and Charlie boy would turn his back on it too.

Let it be what we all know it is. A brainwashing power mad cult which uses it's power to abuse children. It's time people in power admitted that's what it is. Instead we teach it's ******** in schools, bribe people to join it's cult with tax cuts if you get married and allow it to carry out it's abuse unchecked.

Justin wellby should be in prison for covering up child abuse. Instead he's spent the last decade hobnobbing with the top brass in the UK.

It took a fair bit of reading to work out you weren’t talking about Charlie boy and his brethren.

It's no coincidence that the two share the same aim of power and the same behaviour with it is it

Got to be honest, I can't help feeling that by confiscating the land/money of organised religion in this country we would be able to resolve a lot of the issues we have in society.
House the homeless in the churches/cathedrals/synagogues/mosques and temples, use the money from the tax breaks to provide heat to the elderly, use the funds of the religions to build new prisons...

Does " brainwashing power mad cult" apply to all religions?

    Just asking for a Buddhist.

I take your point, but the Dalai Lama has hardly covered himself in glory in recent times.

The whole concept of religion is disgusting. I'm in Spain at the moment where many towns and villages celebrate "Christians and Muslims Day" which involved throwing people off a cliff because they worshipped the "wrong" god. I think the pagan religions had it right, worshipping the sun, there's at least a smidgeon of sense in that.

Oh and Christians, look up Mithras, a Roman pagan deity who seems to be the origin of the made up story of Jesus. A story made up centuries after any such real or imaginary person was supposed to have lived.

    Good evening, by the way.

Religion ought to be the means by which the vulgar, barely beyond savage human race are taught to adopt a measure of morality.

If without success in this regard, it becomes first pointless and then second divisive and dangerous.

Trouble is that there’s no other significant moral beacon to guide us along the path to righteousness.

While so ever that people believe that certain actions or repentance will grant them eternal life (or reincarnation) there is no incentive for people to the right thing. It's essentially a spiritual box ticking exercise.

I think that's one of the things that annoy me most. The organisations of religion and the people within it are horrendous but at the same time the idea of morality which religion preaches is a good one, it's just done at its core for completely the wrong reasons.
Then there's what frustrates and conflicts me most which is people like for who I believe Christianity (and other religions) has been a great comfort. Believing that there is something after death or believing that there is a greater good and a reason to have hope. Many people who believe this are good people and the religion has been nothing but good to them so i cant hate the entire idea of religion in that sense because how can you hate something which helps so many.

I just reckon it shouldn't be linked to the state in any way and religion shouldn't be allowed to be used as an excuse to do or not do things. It should be a private and independent organisation which works alone and should be held to the same standards as anything else.

As you say there should be other moral beacons to guide us and that should come from our leaders but sadly it doesn't because at the end of the day they are exactly the same as religious leaders and only in it for themselves.

The simplest way to explain my response to this is...

Fack the motherfacker, and fack you, motherfacker if you think that motherfacker is sacred. If you cover for another motherfacker who's a kiddie facker. fack you, you're no better than the motherfacking rapist. And if you don't like the swearing that this motherfacker forced from me and reckon it shows moral or intellectual paucity, then fack you, motherfacker - this is language one employs when one is facking cross about fackers facking boys

You cannot have morality led by an institution that has for years somehow recruited more than its fair share of child (and other) molesters, and then ignored or covered up the consequences.

And that's before you get to the historical religious wars, absolute intolerance of others and barbaric executions. All in the name of their particular God.

    Spare us the sermons.

    I do like Christmas though.

Yay. Another chance to quote tim minchin. That's 2 in one thread

    I really like Christmas
    It's sentimental, I know
But I just really like it

    I am hardly religious
I'd rather break bread with Dawkins
Than Desmond Tutu, to be honest

I get freaked out by churches
Some of the hymns that they sing have nice chords
    But the lyrics are dodgy

And yes, I have all of the usual objections
    To the miseducation
Of children who, in tax-exempt institutions
    Are taught to externalise blame
    And to feel ashamed
And to judge things as plain right and wrong
But I quite like the songs

ST - You make some valid points which merit discussion but I find some of your comments about Religion very offensive.

You need to consider deleting the 'Pope Song' - it diminishes you and this website.
