Barnsley Football Club is pleased to announce a key appointment in the business operations at Oakwell. Darren Hayes becomes the Chief Commercial Officer at the Club, having worked most recently with close partners, Weston Park Cancer Charity. After starting and developing his career before moving into management at Sheffield Newspapers across various departments he moved onto IML Labels, as Sales and Marketing Director before becoming Marketing Manager at the club in 2005 coinciding with the Championship promotion season in 2006. After two seasons at the club, he moved to PHP Printers as Sales and Marketing Director working within the region across business-to-business sales and developed PHP into a one stop shop for all types of print work and signage, working with many of the larger companies in the town and beyond. After been treated for testicular cancer in 2007, he became a supporter and patron of Weston Park Cancer Charity, raising thousands over a number of years, before joining the charity on a full time basis in 2015 as Business Development Manager and eventually becoming Head of Fundraising and more recently Head of Strategic Partnerships and Development. In this time he has developed the charity over the years into more of a regional charity and worked across many projects to raise awareness and support of cancer patients in the future. The presence of the charity within Barnsley has been raised with many new initiatives including patient transport which runs from Oakwell. Hayes said: "I'm delighted to have re-joined and look forward to helping the Club grow our revenue streams. I have worked within and with the Club very closely for a long time now and I know how passionate the supporters are about Barnsley. "I can't wait to begin work with the team to deliver on our ambitious plans at Oakwell." Jon Flatman, Chief Executive Officer at Barnsley FC, said: "We are pleased to welcome Darren to the team to lead our Commercial department. Darren will lead the strategic development of our Commercial team, aiming to improve revenues at the club. "Darren will be a key member of the club's executive team as we look forward to delivering on the Club's commercial potential." Continue reading...
I thought an old post had been bumped for a second there, although he is slightly greyer now. He is a top bloke and always seems to have good connections to South Yorkshire businesses.
I hope he's received better than Penelope Edmonds,I'm sure he will. Some comments I've seen on other social outlets are nothing short of disgraceful and more than a little childish regarding Penelope.
My only issue with Penelope. And it is an extremely childish one. Is that I can't read her name without saying Penny Lope
Well I'll say this for our lot. They seem to be filling the backroom with lots of experience. Marketing seems top of the agenda. Just a little surprised if true. The media side was a cost cutting exercise. ?
Hope this doesn't mean he's going to stop making Music in Savage Garden. He's done some good songs over the years.
All the best to Darren. A gent who was always a pleasure to share time with and did great things for a charity very dear to my heart.
