If we get promoted he must be surplus to requirements.

He cost us points yesterday and it’s not the first time. There’s no getting away from that. How can a centre half be so weak? You can cover that a bit if you read the game well or have a bit of pace. He doesn’t.

    Sorry but get rid.

I like him. When he's had a great game he really has had a great game.
But as others have said, some mistakes (and you expect some at this level) are absolutely heart in mouth mistakes. Clangers even.
You can't question his commitment, attitude or even effort either.
If he could cut down in some of the silly clangers he would be a target for other clubs no doubt. Whether he can or not is to be seen.
For him to play every single minute for 50 odd games, says a lot from club management that he's highly thought of

I think he is a weak link. Has spells in games where he does ok but equally seems to stand off, easily get past and he is rash in tackles. When moving the ball runs down rabbit holes and not sure what he adds in attack. Having said that O’Keefe isnt a strong defender so he is a bit exposed. I am happy to develop him but his improvements dont seem to be that progressive. I think the right side of defence is an area we can improve.

Guaranteed to give a chance away due to lack of physically and poor judgement almost every game. Really poor effort for the goal on Saturday.

Hope I’m uploading the screenshot correctly.

Here’s his stats for the season so far. Just picked the defensive ones. For me he’s a decent top end of the table league 1 CB.

Added in Thomas’ stats as well for comparison from his time here.

    MDG first Thomas 2nd.

Again not uploaded image before so let me know if I have done it wrong

Hard to argue that, upon the selected metrics, MDG has not performed better.

Subjectively, having watched both players on numerous occasions, I'd take Bobby Thomas all day, every day.

I suppose the million-dollar question is whether it is my subjective judgement which is clouded by the fact Thomas played in a more entertaining and successful team, or whether the statistics don't necessarily correlate to attainment/success in match play.

I suspect an element of both. Nobody likes being proved objectively wrong and we will all defend our strongly-held opinions to the death. If social media has taught us anything, it is that! Nevertheless, if simply finding the player with the best stats for each of the eleven shirts was a guarantee of success, this management business would be a piece of piss.

It's a compelling argument @Wathreds but, rightly or wrongly, I remain unswayed.

When we go up he will have another season of experience and I think he will step up.

I don't see where MG made a mistake on Saturday. He was out musceled thats true but I don't class that as an error. In a 50 50 it goes one way or the other.Ideally you like to see your defender win the ball but if that was the case nobody would score. Our strikers score because they out do the defender and thats just what the Cambridge striker did on Saturday.Although I like Pines I would keep the defense as it is all season barring injuries or suspensions.

Me too. He's an excellent footballer and the way he brings the ball out of defence is very classy. His distribution is generally very good as well.

Not really something we need to try though. We don’t need to shoe horn him there when we have Connell, Nwakali and Craig who can naturally play there.
He should be played as a CB. He’s a perfectly average L1 defender he’ll have good games and bad games. I’ve no problem with him starting, being benched or being sold but I don’t see the need play him in an unfamiliar position.

    Conversely

If we get promoted, he has already contributed to more than a quarter of the games required to reach that goal.
