£8 in my village for haddock, chips and curry sauce. Very nice they are too.

 

I'm curious how they think Labour has forced up the price already. They should probably thank Brexit, but then again they probably voted for it.

 

£8 a pop is pretty reasonable. Id have walked out and gone elsewhere however, and probably told them why!

Doesn't sound too bad...haddock always carried a premium, I pay £15 for cod and chips 2x....since the Ukraine war cooking oil has gone up a lot and a lot of our whitefish came from Russian waters which led to a shortage and increased prices.

 

We don't have them as often as I'd like and it's the first time I've been taken aback or noticed.

I have 2 chippies to choose from; prefer the other but just happened to be passing.

I'm going to guess that the thick fuckers who run your local chippy are Tory voting, tax dodging, brexiteers who aren't a fan of black folk unless they're spending money buying their shitty chips.

 

Made my own.£4.50 for 2 cod loins,made my own batter ,chips done in airfryer a tin of mushy peas ,job done.

Hasn’t that been the going rate for haddock and chips for a good while now?

I’m no fan of Starmer or Reeves but I’m really struggling to see how they’re to blame when they’ve been in post about 5 minutes.

 

My guess is that those running this local chippy are Jamaican immigrants who relied upon Sir Starmer telling them that they’d be alright cos Labour would look after their backs and not raise taxes on joe worker, only for him to go on and hit their business with extra NI to pay plus an increase in the minimum wage which raises all wages in their chippie (where the chips are lovely), hence the end product being more expensive.

Plus they didn't dodge tax nor vote for brexit.

 

Think yourself lucky, £13.20 for cod, regular chips and mushy peas in the chippy near my brother in laws in Eastleigh. Nearly £40 for 3 meals of fish and chips!

 

Maybe, as I say, not had them for a while. Could be that I've just never paid a lot of attention.

I do remember my mum working in a chippy when I was a nipper. Fish was 7p and chips were 3p.

 

That must have been well before my time but I am old enough to remember 10p scraps!

Haddock vs Cod.

Where I grew up in Bolton on Dearne, the default was cod and you had to pay extra for haddock. I was then a student in Newcastle where haddock was the default and you paid extra for cod.

One of life's great mysteries.
