The prices are usually on the board upon entry. If you don't like the look of them do the moon walk.

    Marks + Spencer

    2 Beer Battered Haddock £6
    New potatoes £1.90

The haddock are very generous and are cooked in 35 minutes. Potatoes will boil in that time. Time for a nice glass of Chablis while they're cooking. What's not to like? And all still available under Sir Keir and Rachel! :D

The new rates for NI and minimum wage increases doesn't come in until April next year so if the prices have been put up I suggest it's profiteering with the blame being put onto others.

    Well it's all a guess isn't it?

The employer may well be simply bringing forward what he knows is soon going to happen.

In any event, someone who runs a business can charge what he likes for his product. It's up to the consumer to decide whether to pay or not. Increasing your prices in a fish and chip is not profiteering, when any of your customers can fish (and chip) elsewhere.

I think ours is about £32 for two (deliveroo rates) plus the cost of a can of mushy peas.

As others have touched on, cooking oil and potatoes were largely grown in Ukraine. Hence those prices increasing significantly. Brexit has driven up the price of fish given large amounts of cod and haddock are caught by EU fisheries and we exported to the EU stuff that are less popular.

Interestingly vegetable oil prices shot up from around £24 for a 20lt drum in January 2022 to over £40 in March after the invasion (and really hard for wholesalers to get hold of) . They're now at around £21.50 when buying wholesale amounts.

The price of potatoes is notoriously unstable. An example of that is that 6 months ago we could buy around 300kg or potatoes for 100 quid, it now costs us 300 quid

Near enough an hour of grafting to afford a portion of fish and chips and a cup of tea? Probably needs increasing a bit more.

I hate vinegar so i couldn't say which it worse from a taste perspective. However, as a former chemist, I'd like to know how "non brewed condiment" is made. Malt vinegar is the natural product of oxygen in the air converting alcohol to acetic acid in beer (brewed from malt).

Non brewed condiment is basically commercial acetic acid mixed with water and caramel, because of this there is no Customs & Excise Duty to be paid on it as there would be in a brewed malt vinegar.
