A friend before I worked there, and someone I enjoyed working with up and down the country. Some of the away trips were special, the nights out, great memories. And he should be proud of his work over many, many years. The voice of BFC!
I didn’t mind Matt’s commentary for watching the away games on iFollow. I’ve got to ask though what does “let my mental health get the better of me by being rude towards another member of staff” mean? Is this a stressed odd snap at someone or is it being a bit of a nob to people?
Yet another poor decision by the club, another to add to the list. Don’t blame Matt one bit, sounds like he’s been working with sub par equipment for a long time. Unfortunately his replacement isn’t as good as Matt is.
Well I miss him, he was our voice of football for me, when you think of some the money we’ve chucked away, this must be absolute peanuts! Just because he had a bad day
Met Matt a few times he's BFC through and through, whilst his actions can't be tolerated I think he knows only too well and has apologised, but still to be shown the door seems very harsh, these are the type of people that we need to try and retain, even if it had been other media duties. It's really poor IMO when we've recruited 2 additional positions within the last month or so, one of which still hasn't been announced by the club in JAQ's daughter, yet we can't find a role for Matt. Not a good look if your saying we can't afford you then 2 more people join the set up.
I'm very disappointed with the way things have turned out; Matt has been a good friend for many years and it was a pleasure to summarise with him on 50 odd occasions up and down the country. He is very professional, and his pre-match preparation is second to none. For me, he will always be the voice of Barnsley FC and I'd like to think he'll be back in the fold someday.
Can’t afford to retain someone who’s given best part of three decades to the club - partly as he lashed out about the shocking equipment he was working with which without knowing exactly what was said I can’t condone - but can afford to create two new roles including one for the daughter of one of the owners. Obviously none of us know what Matt said in his outburst, but it does seem like a poor over-reaction from the club. Especially as he was very popular and very good at his job, that really should have counted for something (in his favour!).
He put a lot of work into his commentaries. It won't be the same without listening to him when I cant get to a game (which is most away games). I think we've made a shocking decision here. I wonder if those who have decided have listened to the commentaries with and without Matt. Don't get me wrong; I like Callum; he's a decent co-commentator, but it's not been the same this season listening to away games.
Some times the club just wreek of cutting corners and penny pinching at the loss of what fans want. This feels like another one of those decisions. All the best Matt, your commentary over the years puts some of the BBC and ITV to shame. This is a huge loss to Barnsley fans all over the world
For me Matt was the voice of Barnsley FC for many years, I loved his enthusiasm, and he always brought the games vividly to life with his commentary. A very sad situation that it had to end like this, sadly missed. All the best Matt and thank you.
Understandable then. I’m sure we all get stressed out at work with shoddy equipment. And my work equipment is only a laptop, monitor and mouse!
Neil Collins also did it last season, he criticised the poor equipment he had to work with... and it cost him his job!.
given some of the crap silence etc we’ve all had to endure through the years, I’d say he’d been very patient and reserved to get that far !
I don’t know what Matt’s done but I’ve had plenty of colleagues over the years who have committed what could be deemed as sackable offences & have got away with them. I think in general if a company wants to cut costs they’ll take advantage of an opportunity like this.
