Same side was crazy. His programme notes praised our subs from the weekend, but not enough to play any. He also said we didn't get what we deserved against Wigan. If he means we should have lost by more after taking nearly 70 mins for a shot on target, I agree. Connell and Phillips are his pets who play when available regardless of their lack of form.
it wasn't a brilliant performance we toiled it out against a mediocre opponent travelling the length of country on a freezing mid week night in an empty stadium
No urgency, no press and no killer instinct. Conceded a couple of very cheap goals. About 30 seconds left we went 20 yards backwards.
Repeating. Both their goals were lapses. That said, really enjoyable game. Humphrys and Dunn looked great again.
Killip was dead unlucky for the second goal he made a absolute worldly of a save and the rebound fortunately landed perfectly for their striker, we were easily the better side against a very average Reading team but yet again we haven’t the quality to put teams away.
Agree that we haven’t got the quality to put teams away but we also gift soft goals regularly, particularly at home. Even the best sides would struggle to win if they had to score three to do it.
What game were you watching, our press, particularly first half, caused quite a few errors in their back line. DKD ‘s goal was very much killer instinct., however he was guilty of missing a great chance second half. Our main problem today was giving the ball away time and time again, often not under pressure. Oh and sloppy defending. I thought we were much better than Saturday, and against a better team. Still came away feeling frustrated though
Discussing game at 1-2 down and the opinion of most of us was were a bang average side Connell isn't the player we thought he would be and Phillips is going backwards with every game DKD is a good player but not an instinctive striker, his natural position is floating behind the front line. Mael is not physically strong enough and if we didn't have Robbo we'd be losing games by 3 or 4 goals a time. Russell has has improved into a moderately average midfielder but there's nobody who can run the game. only my opinion but Connell isn't going to be that man and Clarke needs a plan B..
I thought the Nigerian lad would play tonight and jalo but no and Russell starts again but I am sorry for all who like him but this head coach just doesn't cut it for me
For a lot of games this season we have looked a bang average side but so did Wycombe when we played them earlier and look at them now. My take on it is our December fixtures could really find us out and we are going to need more firepower with pace in the January window to keep us near the top six.
When we have our flat spot there's an arc on the left or right ( like a triangle) with no one in it. Opposition or us. We need Russell in there mopping up. Vast triangles of open pitch that could be sorted with Russell. Explaining that arc. The opposition pop the ball into the gaps between midfield and attack. Its clever really. You bypass Connell and Russell by popping that ball into the space between Gent or O'Keefe who are supposed to be over lapping. Meaning Earl or MDG are pulled out of position leaving Roberts to fire fight. We get away with it time and time again but we're fire fighting. I'd drop Connell or Phillips for Craig/ Nkwali.
