I've said it loads of times but I'll say it again - it was ******* mental to completely scrap an approach which had got us into the playoffs because we thought it would somehow be better to improve our passing statistics for player sales even if it meant we were absolutely dogger
Well we've certainly had plenty of examples of the first part of your descriptor of a defender so far! Come January we're in the same position of needing a good striker, left wing back cover and a right sided defender. If we can do that and keep some consistency, I think the play offs at least is doable. Again, as ever, we need to trim the squad of the excesses we've accumulated. Agree about the quality of the league, obviously we've not played everyone yet, but aside from Huddersfield and the first 15 minutes against Mansfield I've not felt like teams were extremely dominant against us and in those instances I felt it was because we were really poor. If we played them again now I'd fancy us strongly to beat them.
The squad is slightly more trim now we know Connor is just a coach and Wolfe is (unfortunately) no longer with us
Still plenty to go. When you think we've Pines, Shepherd, Lopata and McCarthy as centre back replacements, we've 3 right wing backs, we've 3 goalkeepers... One of which is loaned and injured and we've still more midfielders than we know what to do with... There's still much excess we can get rid of.
That season was an absolute disgrace. Appointing one PE teacher was bad enough, but then to not get Warnock in because of some stupid idea of undervalued european coaches was a ridiculous joke. We'd have stayed up with Warnock. I'm still annoyed about it. To waste all of the work of Stendel, Struber, Ismael and those players... so stupid. We're still down and who knows if we'll get back up any time soon.
