He's refused to wear the LGBTQ armband as Captain due to his religious beliefs. Ipswich issue official statement backing him. Interesting. I'd expect he'd get piled on usually, but think he will be fine in the cultural war top trumps.

100% agree with him and Ipswich. I'm all for equality and rights. Morsy has his rights too, and his shouldn't be infringed.

    Agreed.

Football is involved in so many different campaigns over the course of the year, that the meaning is watered down and they look like they are getting involved to look busy and for the sake of it.

I think using religion as an excuse to actively avoid supporting people who have to suffer discrimination because of how they're born is a disgrace tbh

Whether you agree or not is irrelevant. You have the right to actively promote LGBTQ+ should you wish to, he also has the right not to do so. His reasons are pretty immaterial.

For all you know he may have absolutely nothing whatsoever against any group under the banner of LGBTQ+, he just doesn't personally wish to actively promote it, and that should be perfectly fine in a free Country, shouldn't it?

He has the right not to wear it, I have the right to consider him a bigot.

That's not why he's choosing not to wear it though, is it?

No he's following his religious teachings. Always makes me chuckle when we talk about being more accepting of religious groups when often they follow hate filled texts.

Religious people believe in all sorts of hypocritical nonsense. I'm sure Morsy's team mates with gay relatives etc have made due note of his stance.

He's hardly promoting being LGTBQ. It's just a little (tokenistic) acceptance of their existence within football.

Of course within the male game there aren't any.

It's worth noting that he's had no problems wearing shirts with gambling sponsors before, despite his religion being against that.

    He's just a homophobe.

Isn't it incredible that young gay men just don't play football? I'm sure if they did, they'd be more than happy to openly come out, what with the complete lack of homophobes in the stands and on the pitch.

There’s a difference between offering solidarity and supporting something. Then again Islam is a vile religion that promotes hated, misogyny and homophobia

    This is basically it.

Statistically, there are at least two gay players at Ipswich. I bet they're really empowered to Come Out, thanks to the actions of their heroic homophobic captain.

Just wait till tomorrow when our lot start with James McClean who absolutely loves goading fans if people learned to ignore him I reckon he would get more annoyed.
