If we had won the game the whole subsequent sequence of events between the game and the draw would have happened differently. The differences may have been individually so small to have been almost imperceptible but would have rippled out to the point where even if we were the same ball number it would have been a different random drawing.

I don't begrudge them anything in fairness, despite being annoyingly lucky against us.
But to be honest I couldn't give a monkey's toss who they've drawn in the next round.

1 in 63 times we would have.

Something like a cup draw is so fragile in terms of probability, based on random collisions between balls and even the slightest difference would change it all.

There are more different orders of 64 balls than there are atoms in the observable universe.

The draw happened. It was ball 17 vs ball 49. The names attached to those balls didn't make any difference to the fact that it was those 2 balls drawn together.

    Some cracking ties.

I wish Bromley, Morecambe & Accrington were at home to Newcastle, Chelsea & Liverpool to make the upset seem more feasible but you can’t have everything.

I don't think you appreciate the fragility of something like this. If someone did a cup draw every second since the big bang until now that particular result would almost certainly not happen again in that timeframe. In order for it to have happened everything had to happen literally exactly as it did.

As an illustration, if we would have won then people would have left the stadium at different times. Traffic patterns, communications everything would have happened slightly differently which would then have subsequently affected everything other people did etc. These minor changes would have rippled across the country - probably nothing noticeable but it would mean that the chance of that bag of balls being tipped into the pot at exactly the same point in time, colliding in exactly the same way and being drawn out in exactly the same order is essentially zero.

I don’t care about that. I care about the smaller clubs getting TV money, a big day for the fans, chance to upset the odds in front of a big audience.

If the person filling the bowl with balls read out the name of the teams to check them off as they were loading them in, the slight time longer it took to say “Bristol Rovers” as opposed to “Barnsley” could have meant the balls we’re in a different position when that one was loaded in

Sadly the TV producers are more concerned with viewing figures so will choose Arsenal v Man Utd over Chelsea v Morecambe. The fans of those smaller clubs will still get their big day out, still dream of a cup upset and their clubs will earn a fortune out of the gate money, but the wider viewing public will probably more appreciate a competitive tie between 2 evenly matched clubs.

Cue a boring 0-0 at the Emirates and a thrilling 4-3 win for Morecambe at Stamford Bridge

Yes, made progress to be fair. At least we managed not to get kicked out this time.

Fair play to clarke, he did try to make an illegal substitution, so we did have a go at it.

They do Helen but I think there's more chance of an upset when the smaller team is at home. In most of those examples it's the Premier side at home so I just don't think they'd make for a great viewing experience. Feel free to bump this though if Salford beat Man City away

Can’t be bothered to look it up, but Is it me or do Chelsea always seem to get a home draw against lower league opponents
