We are thrilled to announce the relaunch of the iconic home and away shirts worn during the club’s unforgettable 1997 Premier League campaign.

A cherished part of the club’s rich history, these classic designs are now available for fans to purchase, offering a nostalgic tribute to the Tykes' first and only season in England’s top flight.

The 1997/98 season remains a monumental chapter in Barnsley’s history, a time when the club proudly stood toe-to-toe with the giants of English football. Now, supporters have the opportunity to relive the magic and show their pride by wearing these faithfully recreated shirts.

The home shirt, a deep red with a clean white collar and trim, perfectly captures the spirit of the Oakwell faithful from that historic season. The iconic white rose Barnsley crest sits proudly on the chest, evoking memories of memorable matches against the likes of Manchester United, Arsenal, and Liverpool.

The away shirt, with its striking design and green trim, remains one of the most distinctive kits in Barnsley’s history. Perfect for any fan looking to stand out, this shirt is a timeless symbol of Barnsley’s adventurous spirit during their top-flight journey.

The 1997 home and away shirts are now on sale in the Barnsley FC Club Shop and online. Stocks are limited, so be sure to secure yours quickly to avoid disappointment.

Celebrate Barnsley’s proud Premier League heritage and wear your Tykes colours with pride.

Same here. They go for 100 quid on Ebay, but I still wouldn't sell it.

Retro shirts might actually end up costing us money because it makes people less likely to buy the current kits, so sponsors will think they can get their company across the shirts for less than expected.

That and we have to buy a shirt in a shop and then take it to have the sponsor actually printed on it. Another in the long list of we haven’t got a clue how to run a club.

I wonder how much I'd get for my 1998 Shaw Carpets star shirt.

Wore my red OG with Hendrie 7 on the back at Old Trafford this season. You can spot the remakes a mile off as they aren't baggy like they were in the 90's.

I’m a bit tempted by this I can’t lie. I didn’t move to Barnsley until 2001, when I was 9, so clearly I could never have had an original. A few years ago I did pick up the 95/96 home shirt off classic football shirts but as others have said, these kits (the originals) cost a fair whack still.

Might have to get one in large to try and maintain the baggy feeling. The sleeves on my 95/96 one are that big I feel like if I flapped my arms a bit, I’d take off.

I don't think this thread warrants a dig at the club.

They should relaunch the 97/98 team. Even at the age their at now they'd be better than the current lot.

I’ve been to the club shop today and they aren’t up to much IMHO, look a very bad copy… no embroidery or anything.

The Lyon’s home & away shirts are so much better that are in the club shop.

The original hasn't got any embroidery, the badge, logo and sponsor are all part of the material

I'm hoping the Fanatics deal is either changed when the contract runs out or bought out. If the club can prove it's more viable and profitable than in house then I'll be shocked. It was set up under Khalid not the present CEO. The directors will take the advice from him and given the outcry since fanatics took on the franchise I'll be again shocked to see em keep it when up for tender. May work for glamour clubs in the premier. But imo not for us. We will be at the bottom of the pile in priorities.

Wasn't the current CEO in charge of this at the time in his previous role?

It appears you are right as to when the contract was signed. But i genuinely thought the deal was agreed before he came. And announced by Khaled.
It was handed over to Fanatics may 23 When the previous deal ended.
He (Jon) arrived in January 24 and became CEO In march.
So in effect not 100 % sure who set up the deal Initially, given the time frame. But I have it in my head (right or wrong) They were mentioned b4 Khaled left.
Either way I feel we are not served well by the present outfit.

Ah you could well be right there. I didn't realise he was only here for a couple of months before becoming CEO, I thought he'd been here a year or so
