What an absolute bore and tried to excuse his not making a signal to return to the inside lane. Of course he might be driving a BMW which as everyone knows do not have indicators.

 

I’m usually the first to moan at middle lane hoggers, but I was guilty myself last week. Driving back from Wrexham, late at night and chatting away, I’d taken my eye off the ball and was just tootling along - until some dude drove up my arse flashing his lights

No one’s perfect.

 

Try telling my Mrs that.

 

Tbf in advanced driving test you would be marked down for signaling unnecessary.
So he is spot on in his commentary drive.

 

The standard of driving over the years as deteriorated at a grand scale..yes everyone makes the odd mistake, which is human nature, but some are just complete A***holes when they get behind the wheel
Sorry if I come across as self righteous but it does my tree in how bad standards have dropped, especially on the motorway
Any proffesional or former proffesional driver of large vehicles will tell you part of their driving assessment included motorway supervision, yet folk pass their test and are allowed to use the motorway at speed they aren't accustomed to or experienced with.
I find that the Nottingham Leicester and Northampton then Dunstable Luton areas have the worse culprits of hogging the middle lanes ( based on many years of travelling up and down the M1)
Earlier this year on a 4 lane stretch of the motorway did I experience incompetence at its finest, 2 near side lanes clear enough for the car to pull over, yet the driver hogged the 3rd lane
A couple took to undertaking most flashed him, before doing so ....I too flashed him, to pull over....which to his credit... he did....but unfortunately to the outside lane , where he remained for some time from what I could see in my mirrors, due to me having to undertake
Honestly why some folk don't realise that when they climb in to the saddle they have a lethal weapon in their hands
It really boils my pxxs at times how some of the idiots don't give a flying Fxxk that not only are they putting their own lives in danger, but they put others folks lives in danger too,through their recklessness and stupidity

M1 back from Leeds after gigs, hardly any traffic but there are always middle lane dwelling tw@ts.

 

I’m always undertaking. Just a matter of time before I get pulled for it.
Huge amount of oblivious middle lane Tesco shopping trolley hoggers. I’m not even sure they know they should be pulling in.
I always signal to move back into the inside line. Just good practice. The ‘assumption’ this should happen, that the Police officer refers to in the video died out in the 1970s.

Good practice which I agree ,but still marked down on ROSPA Advanced driving test.

 

I would only undertake if there was no one else in the car with me and there was hard shoulder, theoretically of course.....

 

Have to agree with the comments in this thread, driving standard, safety and general consideration for others is abysmal.
I regularly also see those who think there time is more important and on busy motorways where traffic is flowing to the maximum they still choose to lane hop to lane 2 or even 1 and dangerously undertake even when traffic in lane 3 is going as fast as possible but not fast enough for them due to volume.

Also when did amber lights become a sign to speed up and still go through on red not talking about it changing on you when you are right on the point of the light I'm talking way back with time to slow down.
Finally the t*ats that think green lights are just go and just block up junctions when the road infront isn't clear meaning then on the change nobody else can manuvere because they couldn't be bothered to wait and wanted to be 10 yards further in the grand scheme and in turn just building up traffic blocking everyone.

By no means a perfect driver but i observe speed limits and try and be courteous to others.
Speeding kills, a pal of mine died at 18 due to speed it's something you never forget, such a waste

 

Why wouldn't you overtake in lane 3?

 

On the subject of undertaking, is it undertaking if I'm plodding along nicely with cruise control set to 70mph in an empty lane one and I happen upon a ***** doing 50mph in lane 3 of 4 so I just continue on my merry way down lane one without adjusting my speed?

Some people tell me I should be swerving round to lane 4 and back across all 4 lanes to lane one again which just sounds ridiculously dangerous and unnecessary to me.

 

I always thought if you were in lane 1 and the traffic in lane 1 was moving faster than say lane 2 then this is acceptable, but if there is space to move to lane 2, then 3 then back over to lane 1 then this is the course you should take, could be wrong but thought the only legal accepting of undertaking was as explained where full lanes naturally progress faster e.g lane 1 moving quicker than 2

 

I often see this when driving late at night. I just indicate, gently move out to the the third lane, overtake, then indicate and move back to lane 1.

I can't think of anything that inconveniences me less.

They're not tw@ts, they're just people. People who could use a little education on the correct etiquette when driving on a motorway, but as motorway driving is not taught, I don't necessarily blame them for not knowing.

I passed my test in 1972 and my instructor gave me some sage advice which I never forgot. "Congratulations, you've passed your test, now f*** off and learn how to drive".
It seems to me that back in the day, the object of the exercise was to learn how to drive, and passing the test was stepping stone to that goal. Latterly it appears that pupils are taught, simply 'how to pass the test' and the impression is that once you pass,,,,,,, you can drive. It's a bit like the husband who asked his wife if she wanted to learn how to play golf. She replied "Don't need to love,,, I learned yesterday".

 

I see folk undertaking on the motorway almost every day and it does my head in. They weave from lane to lane to gain a couple of hundred yards.....bonkers.
As for speed killing I had the same experience when an off duty copper late for some appointment somewhere careered head on into one of my best mates back in 1990.
He was just 24 and the nicest lad you could wish to meet.
