I don't recall too many people being dissapointed that Chaplin left. I think there was a handful of us who liked him but understood - reluctantly - that he wasn't really a good fit for Val ball. Essentially he became a bit part player after the transfer window when we brought in Dyke and Morris and was always played out wide and not in his favoured role behind the strikers.

His period under Struber - who played him centrally - was his best time for us. He wasn't profilic but still got double figures (his first at Championship level in a young 'struggling' side). HIs workrate and pressing from the front was eye catching and he wasn't afraid to put his foot him and kick someone (qualities I like and these are probably the reasons why I'm not warming to DKD).

As stated above, he was let go (following big Val's departure) under the 'stewardship' of Paul Conway's second attempt at CEO. What I don't understand is cuddly Paul stated we were returning to a more progressive and technical way of playing (or words to that effect) so why we let Chaplin go is beyond me as I feel that would have been a better fit for his qualities. I know we brought in Iseka and Oulare but we also brought in Cole who was nowhere near and never will be the quality of Chaplin.

That summer, and the some the decision making, was a clüsterfück of epic proportions.

Which we are still trying to rectify the issues caused during that period now and probably a large part of why league one is now “our level”

Can't be arsed looking back but I thought Chaplin had more admirers than doubters. That hattrick at Oakwell was sublime. Trouble is, people only remember the negative posts when talking about ex players.

I rated Chaplin but to be fair he ought to have been let go before Val came in for doing that dreadful floss dance when we stayed up at Brentford!!!

Joking aside, glad he’s doing well, and the words he said about the club strike very true. Unless I’m mistaken he’s said nothing against the fans, only those running the club.

To be fair most of the negative posts on there are the same old posters who are either still relentlessly negative or have stopped posting.
Chaplin was decent enough. Seems like a good bloke. No real qualms from me. Surprised he is doing so well as he is painfully one footed.

Was going to say the same. Its the usual suspects again. The same who slag players like Chaplin and Mowatt off when they're here and then claim weve gone so far backwards from the good signings of Chaplin and Mowatt and only sign **** now. Etc...

Former Owls striker Imre Varadi was the grandson of Ollie.
