Apologies for asking this on here but wondered if anyone’s had or knows anyone that’s had the above surgery done for an enlarged prostate.

Mine was taken out with a Radical Procetcamy procedure. I've 5 small scars where they went in.

Gone terribly high-brow, this site. Back in the day, the Hartog set would've been all over that.

Had the same biopsy then operation. The biopsy is not very nice especially when I ended up with severe sepsis after, and nearly died because of incompetent triarging at a and e. I was lucky my wife refused to take me home especially when i had a letter from urology stating sepsis could result in a small percentage of cases. I had a temperature of 41.7 and it was the worst night of my life but the antibiotics did the job. After that the operation was a doddle but not particularly comfortable for maybe the first 3 to 5 days or so, then as others have said you should start seeing improvements once the scar tissue comes out. I don't regret it , life's much easier now and so overall it was worth it.

I had a rather unpleasant examination involving Vaseline and a blood test about 3 months ago. My prostate is enlarged but no sign of cancer thankfully. The worst problem is if I have a few drinks, I'm up and down to the bog all night and never pee much more than an egg-cup full. Also first thing in the morning, I get up, have a pee, then make tea and coffee for me and Mrs Brush to drink in bed. By the time I'm going upstairs with the drinks, I'm walking cross-legged...:eek::eek:

Shall we start a new message board "The Barnsley Prostate Sufferers Bulletin Board"?

Are you taking any medication? I too have an enlarged prostate and was put on Tamsulosin years ago. Not sure how effective, or if effective at all, as I’m quite ‘regular’. After a few pints I might as well sleep in the bathroom.

No, I'm not taking anything for it, I'm 68 and not on any prescription drugs and I'm sort of quite proud of this so I'd have to be having far worse symptoms before I'd ask for anything. When I was sexually abused (sorry I mean examined) I was offered something (can't remember what it was) and I turned it down. Oddly, I can drink a few pints of beer and I don't have a problem, however, if I have a dram or two of whiskey....

I took Tamsulosin for five years and it definitely didn't shrink my Prostate, I wanted Brachytherapy but it was too enlarged for that so I chose the operation. Things arnt perfect but I'm still here ( touch wood) and that was 6 years ago.

The reason I asked the original question is on 2occasions I ain’t been able to pee and ended up in a and e with a catheter I take tamsolisin but I t works most of the time but not always,
This procedure they hollow out your prostate where it nips you prostate.
You only have it done once your prostate will never increase in size and it,s day surgery apparently shove laser down your piss pipe job done, needs a general anaesthetic though.
