Would you not pick him, and stick with today’s trio then? He has nine goal contributions this season (in 19 games), which, for an attacking midfielder seems pretty good to me. He’d have nearly double that if others could finish the chances he’s laid on for them, and he himself missed a couple of great chances away at Cambridge. I’d play him, Russell and Kelechi. No offence to Connell. He’s a very good player but was our worst player today and hasn’t been on his game for a while. A rest might be good for him? We all assumed midfield was our strongest area. Benson returns and stays fit and he waltzes in too.
Thought we were the better side even in the first half but what is it with us we get a lead then stop doing what got us in front. Thought Pines did well accept trying that header with the ball 2ft off the ground and Mccarthy playing on his weaker side plus first full game for a long time tougher test await but both did well.
Only caught the last 20 minutes of the game and what i saw from us was basically kick it anywhere and hold on for the points which we thankfully did absolutely no composure shown at all.
I have said it repeatedly, but it feels a playoffs at best squad. That’s why I haven’t knocked Clarke. I think we are where we ought to be. Just outside the top six. But, there’s another opportunity to shape the squad next month and, if we have everyone fit and available, we are more than capable of beating anyone. I’ve seen some crazily negative posts today, while we were losing. It’s as though they think this squad is automatics quality, and hasn’t lost a handful of key players to injury/suspension. To turn the game and win a 6th away match, hats off to DC! Up the Reds.
Yeah the season was never over for us was it, despite what some were suggesting recently. This result just shows how things can quickly change again, and we're just a point behind the top six again. I think we're more than capable of staying in the Play off chase, rather than just dropping down to mid table etc. But once again, the pressure will rise now on what sort of January window we have!.
Very surprised when Russel was substituted, was my man o the match easily today. I would have subbed Luca
I thought he did, yes. If that second one wasn't him, then I definitely don't recognise at least one of our matchday squad.
Now I enjoyed that, even if all our players weren't on top of their game. Nwakali was my MOTM, looked very classy again. Safe journey home to all our fans who've made the trip.
Oh, and special mentions to Pines & McCarthy, who (after an understandablely nervous start) did excellently, in my opinion.
