Bergamo is lovely. Milan is ace as well in the city centre. San Siro is a crumbling shithole with absolutely zero facilities inside the stadium (you literally cant buy a drink and there's about 1 toilet per 4000 fans) but still worth seeing a game there.
Can't buy a drink? We always comment on how there's zero queues when going for a pint, Italians aren't bothered. They also serves pints at your seat.
Have you got any food recommendations Matt? We're literally there for 24 hours, as it was immensely cheaper to get tickets through Bergamo than flying to Tallinn directly. Once we've factored in hotel, meals out etc it'll probably work out around the same, but at least I won't feel as resentful about it. Plus I'll be able to have lunch in Manchester, dinner in Bergamo, and dinner the next night in Estonia. Would probably post all about it on TikTok as well if I was young, female, and knew how TikTok works.
I’ve gone for Rome as a Christmas present for the Mrs, flight prices were really cheap for next month too
Been to Milan, been to the San Siro to watch Inter. San Siro is worth a visit but wouldn’t go back to Milan, I thought it was cack.
I've been lucky to visit quite a few places in Italy. I've been to Milan twice and while it's not my favourite city, it does have some interesting parts to it and Duomo and the Galleria are impressive. Though I would recommend Turin much more (about an hour from Milan on the fast train) and not many tourists tend to visit. The great thing with Italy is every region has its own character, style and cuisine. I'd thoroughly recommend Emilia Romagna for the food, especially if you go late September and drop on Porcini season. Bologna is a great city and with Parma, Modena, Ferrara and a few others close by, it's great to flit around. I'd also recommend Pisa. Yes, everyone goes for the tower, though the Duomo and grounds are arguably more impressive and there are some lovely little squares, churches and impressive buildings. It's very good value and you're in travel distance to CinqueTerre. You're also near Lucca which is a fabulous old walled city and a quaint little place called Pietrasanta, which though its old had an arty feel to it. But you've plumped for my favourite city in the world, so you really won't go far wrong if you simply visit every church you can and just walk around with your eyes open. Enjoy.
Centre of Milan is lovely but outside of the city centre couple of square mile there's not too much, lots of graffiti everywhere and like lots of big cities lots of homelessness. The Derby Della Madonina (Milan derby) is worth the trip though. Keep looking at Genoa and then a train hop down the coast, fancied taking in the Genoa Derby but Sampdoria got relegated and look in an awful way, beautiful bit of coastline down the west side of Italy
Bergamo is lovely. Go up to Cita Alta on fenicular. Milan is decent but outskirts very run down i thought. Lake Como is my favourite, i wanna live there but missus wont leave her family.
