What do we need in January?

Noting that DC makes mention of 'knowing what we need' in January, I wondered what folk think?

I think we all agree we need to move more out than we bring in, and there are probably 5-6 candidates to go either on loan, permanently, or maybe even we release?

As things stand, I'd predict us to finish 8th-10th. We don't need much to tilt the balance into a top 6 finish and what would for me be an unexpected shot at promotion this year.

If I'm looking for what could tip it in our favour, in order of priority it would be:

    1. A proper centre forward. Not necessarily an out-and-out goalscorer (though that would be nice), but one who can really occupy and trouble a defence and create space for the likes of Humphreys, DKD and Phillips. Someone who can have a similar impact to Norwood a couple of years back, or Jon Macken going back a few more years.

    2. A right back who can defend. For me this is the key to giving us some tactical flexibility. None of our 3 right wing backs can defend, and I'm not really sure any of them are up to this level even as wing backs. If we could get someone who can play either as the right side of a 4 or as a right wing back, then we can adapt out formation and left sided options based on the opposition. Earl and Gent could both play the other side, but neither is appealing with the right sided options we currently have.

    3. A keeper, probably on loan. I hesitate and feel a bit bad about including this as I don't think Killip has done anything wrong at all, but a top keeper could become a key deciding factor at the business end of the season. Rather than an inexperienced youngster, I'd be looking to see if there are any 2nd/3rd choice keepers with a bit of experience who are looking to get out and play. Someone like Adam Davies, for example (not saying he necessarily fits that bill, but would be the type that might).

    A proper climate change policy.
A tax on wealth not earnings.
Decriminalisation of all currently illegal drugs.
A ten fold increase in funding for children's social care.
    Acceptance of each other.
And a decent centre forward, obviously.

Agree with your post. For me a proper centre forward and a decent RWB are the top priorities. I’d be happy with a GK or a midfielder who can put a proper tackle in too but neither are a must.

Craig, Slonina, Lofthouse, Cotter, Benson can all go if anyone will take them.

    2x wing backs

see if we can end the loans and get more effective ones in.

Sell some centre halves. Think we have 9. Far too many and unbalanced.

A proper centre forward should be the priority.
Left back to compete with Gent.
    Keeper to replace Slonina.

I can’t see us signing a right back unless two of the three on the books leave. Similar with the middle of the park.

2x wingers and a Forward with pace.

That’s all we need as a short term fix.

Wingers so we can change it up when needed and obviously a lack of fire power up top has cost us recently.

Not much use for wingers when we don’t seem to have any fullbacks capable of playing in a back four.

MLH in the Huddersfield Examiner talking about playing Cambridge tonight mentioned trying to sign Shayne Lavery when he was with us. He's scored 4 in 13 this season. I wonder if he's still on our radar.

Definitely one forward but two if we can somehow offload Cosgrove.

Why loan Jalo out. It’s not as if we well off with attacking players and I am sure he would have played the other week for us if he hadn’t go at injured, anyway he’s due an operation isn’t he?
