Taddy’s is foul muck! Their organic lager isn’t too bad but I don’t tend to go to Sam Smiths pubs much as the atmosphere is akin to a morgue. Only when I go with the rugby dads round York really.

I went in the Ivanhoe in Sprotbrough the other year and they stopped some old boys playing dominoes as they were being too loud and were worried money was changing hands.

    Bizarre places.

It's killed the community in my village having no pub (my pub is mentioned in that article). And the next village along, Rufforth, is the same.

Our local is a Sam Smiths . A lovely setting with fantastic outbuildings which could be put to better use.In the summer it is the go-to place because if it’s beer garden.
However, Humphry has allegedly sacked several Landlords for reportedly very dubious reasons. One supposedly because the coffee he ordered wasn’t to his liking. In the last 8 years the place has been closed more than open. landlords losing their livelihood overnight.
It’s very noticeable that the pricing has gone through the roof in Sam Smiths pubs. Used to be the cheapest around.
And as for the rulings about phones and swearing - just a nonsense. Our local seems to enforce the no phone rule whilst turning a bling eye to endless effing and jeffing.

Is it the one in Edenthorpe?....if it was, I remember it when it was new....my old man went in both the Holly Bush and the Ridgewood....I think they were the only two pubs in the village when we lived there, there was a club ( can't remember it's name) though near the junction of Church Balk and the main road the Holly Bush stands on.

I think the Ridgewood is shut too and the other one on church balk was the ki ki a night club sister to the ba ba I think.

Thanks for that, you're right Kiki Club....( after a bit of digging) it was owned by Peter Casson who also had the Ba Ba as you said. Before Ki Ki it was Edenthorpe Social Club aka Kirk Sandall Social Club, Edenthorpe.
In the mid 1960's I used to go to a Saturday morning picture show they put on for the kids.

The ki ki is now a health centre, the glassmaker is still rocking after a rebuild.
