Guessing Clarke hasn't got another bad run of results credit.

Nine set piece goals from 29 scored (in the league). Think it’s the 6th best in the division.

Most influential player I’ve seen in a Barnsley shirt and easily my favourite in the almost 20 years I’ve been following us. Proper captain, had quality and a bit of nastiness in him and plenty of character. It’s a shame he’s not quite the player he was but I’m sure he’s loads to offer on the coaching side.

Of course I believe some will fall for such practices. But to buy one based on a player who was way past his best. What did they actually expect other than probably leadership on the field. (Which I thought may get him a place in the team) Players rarely bring their old selves back. Many have flopped in comparison to their first session at the club.
The only one I can think of at the top of my head. Hammill. Who shone in both spells.
Those that never got anywhere previous heights and some fans expect that. Eg.
    Glavin
    Banks
    Currie
Whilst ok. Not much more than that.

I'm glad he's here in any capacity, but........he played 41 out of 46 league games for a promotion winning team last season......then nowt.
That is a bit odd, isn't it?

He played 40 odd games last season.

    He's not 55 years old.

He's hung up his boots ask yourself why. I'm pretty sure he knows better than you or I of where he's at re his age. and have you watched his video. ? From what I saw over the last few games he played against us, no thanks. 40 games or not. As I say I thought he would come as captain. But didn't for one minute think he would perform anywhere near his peak. It's all about opinion.
Would you play him. ? In a midfield of what. ?

After first few games when he didn't make any appearances the writing was on the wall. I feel the club pulled the wool over the supporters eyes yet again and has led to continuing mistrust between the supporters and the board.

Anyone ever considered that, yer know, things change? 6 months ago he was the captain of Derby and played most games to them getting promoted. It's more than reasonable he felt he could do a job still but felt the end coming and a combination of things - not least his performances - has meant he's decided to bin it and focus on the next chapter.

Folk just love moaning like f.ck.

The club or the manager who apparently doesnt pick the team according to some who've penned before ?
He signed as a player coach. Perhaps Daryll thinks he didnt warrant a place. Perish the thought.

Whether or not I would play him doesn't matter a jot. And of course he knows his body better than me. That isn't the discussion.

But as stated by other posters prior, when he signed they put out all the emotional heart string pulling videos. Showed all his goals. They didn't say "don't get your hopes up lads, he's shgged out"

Who picks the team ?. See my previous post or would you like the board to. I'm pretty sure like most fans, they envisaged him to play more. You call it pulling wool over eyes, that's fine. I think.more, circumstances.

It doesn't matter who picks the team - that's not my point. My point was the publicity of the signature around his signing.

Let's take him completely out of the equation. Say we'd signed Joe Bloggs, aged 33. A man who'd captained a team to automatic promotion the year before. An almost ever present. We'd be well happy. Just what we need. Experience in midfield. We'd be up in arms if he barely played a minute.

Absolute legend for us and always will be whatever happens. Definitely think he’ll be the next head coach.

The publicity is what would be as expected.
Most teams would point out the return of a hero. Especially given player coach status.

My point being the manager has the final say on who plays and who doesn't. You say wool over eyes. Fine I get it. You think the board did that. I don't because I genuinely think.that they thought he would get more game time. And it's not turned out like that.

But i just don't see why folk would purchase a ticket on what they think will happen, not what may happen in reality. And reality is the manager puts the team out.
Does he not have the final say. ?
Have you watched the full interview. If so, what are your thoughts on Conors explanation.? Bear in mind he was part of all the hype, do you lay blame at his door as well.

I'm not speaking about what's happening now. Its obvious that Clarke/Conor have decided that it's time. Conor either doesn't want to play, or Clarke has told him he's not going to get picked.

    That's not my point.

My point is the wording of the signature in July and the publicity and optimism of Conor the player. I just think we were a little bit naughty that's all.

Edit: and I agree that people were probably daft if that was their only reason for buying a ticket. But those same people were definitely given the impression that Conor would be playing.
