Did Conor Hourihane returning to the club influence your decision to buy a season ticket

In any way.

It's something I've read on here a lot since the summer, and seems to be what the angry mob are saying on social media. I was going to do this poll sooner, but I guess it's more poignant now.

But I can't honestly believe that peoples decision to buy a season ticket was influenced by the signing of a 33 year old midfield, even one who's a club legend.

 

My decision for an ST was the scenic journey, the excellent car park and the superb catering / price structure in the East Stand concourse.

Makes you wonder why the club wasted time and money making promotional videos and called on fans to "Grab your 24/25 season ticket and join Conor here at Oakwell!" Doesn't it

 

I'd say that although it wasn't the only factor for plenty of people, it certainly did contribute.

The club were a little naughty with some of the wording and verbiage around renewal time imo.

 

No I still didn't get one.

I doubt it did influence many too strongly.

Do you think we signed Conor with no intention of playing him? I personally don't. I imagine he's on a decent wage, and it appears to be his decision not to play. It seemed apparent from most of the interviews he did in the summer both before and after he signed for us that his main focus was on coaching. He's certainly played a lot less than I anticipated, but I'm not overly surprised he hasn't.

No. Maybe he’ll turn out to be a decent coach but it never looked like a good signing to me.
There should be no room for sentiment in a multi million pound business.

 

The club could have been honest and open about CHs return but instead decided to Be deceitful and underhanded. They implied he was coming back to play a major role on the field by releasing videos of him in action around ST renewal time with catch lines of Join Conner at Oakwell etc etc. The fact it's taken while the end of December for an official confirmation of what most fans had twigged by the end of August shows how disconnected the owners and fans have become.The CH saga is just another in a long list of reasons why a large section of the fan base have no faith or trust in the people in charge at Oakwell

 

I may be wrong but I doubt it influenced one person to buy a ticket

 

No, I'd got my season ticket before he signed.

 

No, I was waiting for mate's confirmation he had renewed before renewing mine. It just happened to be the same day the signing was made but before the announcement.

 

I'm not a season ticket holder but if I had been, the signing of Hourihane would have had no influence on my decision to renew.

Only the return of Neil Redfearn or Ronnie Glavin (in their prime) might have made a difference.

 

Not sure about influencing decisions to purchase tickets, but I definitely felt more positive about the business we’d done, and was looking forward to seeing him play again.

 

I’d already renewed. I’d still be coming to watch us if we were in the conference as long as I could afford it & I didn’t work Saturdays.

The truth is the club did use him as a tool to help sell season tickets. Whether they did that in good faith or not is the debate.

 

I don't know. Nobody does.

But what I do know is that we were told we'd signed a 33 year old player/coach, fresh from leading a side in the same Division to promotion all whilst playing 40+ games.

The implication was there for all to see.

I'm not usually a club basher btw, I'm just saying what I perceive to be a little bit of white lie telling.

 

I think I'd renewed before he signed. I was happy he signed, hoped we see him on the pitch, at least in cameo appearances to see games out or in the cups to guide the younger players. But I'd never renew based on the signing or contract situation of a single player.

 

I had already got mine so no influence, but surely whoever we sign during the summer transfer window has an effect to whether some people decide to watch us or not, whether that be match day or season ticket

 

If you renewed because you thought we’d signed Hourihane as a player primarily then it’s on you.

in the same way that if you bought a season ticket because we had a player you loved and we ended up selling him in January then that’s your issue.

 

It would be interesting to bump an old thread of round that time regarding ST sales.
