I wish people wouldn't post facts backed up by evidence. This is the internet ffs, hyperbole and emotional outrage must rule!!

Do you include Connor in that. ? Circumstances with the best will in the world often change things.

To be honest I genuinely can't remember what he actually said - it'll be interesting to look back at his initial interviews to see if he gave any signs of a lack of playing time.

I'm on about this video out today.
Beware it's 28 minutes long. And really does play on circumstances and his reason not to carry on.

    I'm not speaking about today.

All I'm talking about is how his signing was announced by the Club/Player and the accompanying fanfare.

Can't believe anyone has anything negative at all to say about this.

Good luck with your future as a coach, Skipper.

Whilst that’s a nice thought & I’d like to think it’s true it does beg the question as to why we signed so many central midfielders if he was supposed to feature for us?

There’s no real need for all of Hourihane, Connell, Nwakali, Craig, Russell, Phillips, Benson & Yoganathan to be on the books at the same time.

At the end of the day only Conor knows his body, and if its time then you have to respect his decsion and perhaps he didn't want to drag things on and wants to fully focus the next chapter.
Still a legend and thankfully still with us.

I'm not surprised by this, but yeah I'm a bit disappointed to be honest. Even though I/we surely knew it was going to happen.
When the words 'his legs have gone..' were said though, that's what I found hard to understand.
If he hadn't just played a large part in Derby's promotion, then it wouldn't have been an issue.
But I do agree with those who are saying he's only 33 though, its not as though he's in his 50s!.

A genuine Club legend, and to be fair there aren't that many of them. However the decision to market the signing as a player just doesn't sit well with me at all. Granted he was never going to be the player he was. But we're not talking about someone coming out of retirement or coming back to us from a non-league Club. We're talking about someone who captained a League 1 side to promotion the previous season.

I sincerely hope he wasn't signed on player wages.

People keep saying that. Based on what? What credentials does he have to step straight into the manager's job? I really hope he isn't.

Pines and Roberts are cracking players to work with for set pieces, Pines in particular causes chaos if the delivery or routine is right.

The club and player have no reason to lie.

CH had enough bargaining power to ensure whatever the plans were for this season suited him and his professional reputation.

Anyone saying that this was all set up from the start is questioning CH’s integrity and honesty, as well as the clubs. As YT mentions - he’s an absolute professional and wouldn’t entertain it.

Why can’t this just be the truth.

If anything, it’s refreshing from a player to accept his retirement early and move on.

I guarantee you if this was the usual journeyman footballer working his way down the leagues, he would still be playing for another 2 years to get his money. But CH has too much love respect for the club to do that.
