‘Backing the team’ really. WTF does it matter if I was there or not, I rarely sing when I’m there, and certainly don’t sing brain-dead songs like this or the fek the Pope and the IRA ******.
Ok. I'll take that as you weren't there. You've made reference to a sectarian song and @SuperTyke made reference to racist songs. Both are false equivalence. The song yesterday was not racist, or sexist, or misogynist, or sectarian, or anything else objectionable. It expresses dissatisfaction with one of our desperately underachieving owners whilst at the same time expressing support for the team. I struggle to see how anyone is trying to manufacture offence. JAQ has clearly taken it in her stride given her response. What's the stupid IRA song got to do with the price of fish?
Usually by grown blokes who doesn't like it when she talks back or defends herself/other members of the staff. They also pile on when she mentions the women's team. It's pathetic. She has literally nothing to do with the footballing side of things - as has been said countless times.
I'll have to disagree, mate. Whilst the wording of the song itself isn't directly sexist or mysogynjstic, it seems odd that despite many having the opinion that the club is being badly run, it's JAQ who's taking the flack. Personally, I don't think she would be taking so much stick if she was a man. Why aren't songs been sung about Neerav Parekh, who has a much greater share on the board and is the club's appointed chairman. Or Jon Flatman, who is the CEO and in charge of the day to day running of the club, the match day experience and presumably the absurdly high ticket pricing. Or Mladen Sorbaz, the person responsible for the poor recruitment drive in the summer. Aside from making questionable choices around our kits for this season, what has JAQ actually done wrong to be the focal point of our fans displeasure with the board? And whilst I have no quarms whatsoever with anyone showing their displeasure for how the club is being run, singing derogatory songs about one of the owners is the complete opposite of 'supporting the club' in my opinion. You're well within your right to do it, but let's not call it something it isn't.
Thanks mate, i do get that it is unfair that one person gets all this criticism. I rarely use Twitter as it is a medium purely for bellends, divs and titwaanks, but i hear on here often that there's some totally out of order stuff directed at JAQ and thats absolutrly beyond the pail. However, i do agree with the statement that i've quoted, and that's why i don't like the inference from people that there are sexist undertones to what was sung at Bolton. JAQ is the most visible - and as far as I am aware the only one with (an albeit intermittent unless we are winning) social media - presence. She also often strikes a combative tone in open days which is very different from the appearances by Neerav, who is much more conciliatory. Flatman and Sormaz are invisible to fans, and don't have true decision making agency. The Crynes are also invisible. If it was about sexism, why isn't Jean coming in for any criticism? It's natural that the most public facing and forthright person will become a lightning rod for people's dissatisfaction. And as much as we all know the challenges the board face, if we finish in our current league position this will constitute a 4th consecutive season of finishing lower than the previous one. Thats pretty bad - continued downward progress and no clear plan on hpw to reverse it.
The song doesn’t make sense though. ‘She doesn’t care about us’ They’re literally losing millions funding the club. If there were lyrics suggesting that they don’t know what they’re doing then that would make more sense. It just seems a really weird chant.
I agree it’s weird, people only know who JAQ is because she engages, ironic really. Also not convinced being sat 7th in league 1 at the half way point is the decline that some people keep making out it is. Find the whole anti board sentiment a bit over the top personally.
but why are we losing millions - just cos everyone else does doesn’t make it ok. The club is being mismanaged currently and being propped up by them funding the gap of around 7-8m according to flatman at the last fans forum - that can’t or won’t go on forever.
It’s a reference to brain-dead songs be they sectarian or otherwise. Why can’t they just chant songs that just gets behind the team without digging at individuals at the club? I still don’t know why whether I was there or not makes a difference to my opinion of a chant?
Thats because pro football in general is mismanaged. Until they stop paying players mega buck wages it will remain so.
Exactly this. JAQ’s response was professional. It would be totally understandable if she was upset by that chant. Biting the hand that feeds is simply stupid. Yes the Board should be questioned, but this is abusive and not very bright. Some of us are old enough to remember admin and almost going out of business. Our present owners are nowhere near the mess that we had back then. People need to be careful what they wish for.
correct me if I’m wrong but our wage bill was around 5m so it appears hole in our finances is bigger than just that. No matter who or what it’s unsustainable no owner is going to keep pumping in 8m a year.
The criticism of JAQ is without doubt misogynistic at root. There's things that I don't like much, the kit for example, but at least she's trying stuff. The idea that the club is being managed is ridiculous. All clubs have good and bad spells, make mistakes etc. There must be about 70 odd "mismanaged" clubs currently in the leagues. The one criticism I do have is the pictures she keeps posting of her cosying up to Infantino. It makes me cringe. I don't want BFC remotely connected to that corrupt, venal institution.
I have view that some associated costs of running a football club are artificially inflated as a result of high player costs. Sorting that out would go a fair way to levelling the playing field. I realise that may not provide the full answer but it would be a start.
The way I see things - although it doesn't really matter - is that some morons sang a moronic song. No real thought behind it, but the melody and rhyme might have sounded clever to them. I still, after all these years prefer the Ronnie Moore song. Direct attack on an opposition striker rather than an inward looking attack on ourselves. It was also amusing!
