We took the kids to watch Jack and The Beanstalk last night and what a fantastic performance / venue. It was the last night of the panto but it was 2.5 was hours of fun! The last few years we've gone to watch a Christmas panto at the Lawrence Batley Theatre in Huddersfield but it's become quite pricey. Last night we paid £60 for a family of 5, whereas the panto at Lawrence Batley would have cost us circa £170. Just more a shout out than anything else as I understand they will be back from next November with another performance.
We went to watch it too and the reaction was the opposite. Poor venue for a pantomime because of the sunken stage, poor set which limited the ability to feel emersed in the performance and a poor script whuch at times felt more like a cruise ship concert than a pantomime focusing solely on the casts singing abilities than the jokes. Prime example is a 10 minute long random spice girl medley for absolutely no reason.
Each to their own mate! I'm not going to argue with you! We enjoyed it though and certainly in comparison to what's we've witnessed at Lawrence Batley the last couple of years.
I personally didn't mind it because it passed a few hours with a bit of escapism from real life it was more the kids I went with all hated it and actually asked to go homemat half time. One thing that bugged me most was the building. I just wish they'd reopen the full theatre because it's a thing of beauty but I guess there's no chan4of that ever happening.
Good shout out. Went in last Monday morning to see the Georgia O'Keeffe exhibition only to be told it isn't open on a Monday. A lady overheard and said she'd open it up especially for me. Great service and good to see an important 20th century artist in Barnsley.
They would have to take the floor out of the existing area, don't know why they didn't put it back to it's former glory with all the work it's had done
Yeah that's why I don't think they'll do it any time soon but I really wish they would. We need a bigger venue in town.
