From the Peterborough Telegraph..... "Peterborough United boss Darren Ferguson labelled referee Alex Chilowicz ‘an actor’ after he sent off Hayley Mills during Sunday’s 3-1 League One home defeat at the hands of Barnsley. The 19-year-old full-back was sent off 10 minutes from time for a challenge on Barnsley’s Stuart O’Keefe. Posh had just dragged themselves back into the game at 2-1. Replays showed clear contact from Mills, but his foot was on the floor. Ferguson described it as a ‘yellow card at worst’ and the decision to show a red as ‘embarrassing.’ If Posh can not get the dismissal overturned, Mills will miss three matches, leaving Jack Sparkes as the club’s only fit senior left-back. Ferguson did not, however, think much to the chances of success at appeal. Ferguson was also displeased at the referee’s general demeanour during the game and expressed frustration at his own yellow card, picked up for stepping outside of his technical area, something he accused the Barnsley coaching staff of doing far more often." Stuart?
Manager claims tackle wasn’t a red card, but then admits it will never get overturned and therefore should have been a red card. Ferguson was displeased with the referee for booking him, but failed to mention the softest of penalties awarded in his favour…
What was up with the referee's general demeanour? I hope he was too camp and waspish for Ferguson's taste.
Often see them given I thought it was a really bad challenge from behind and on another day could have snapped o keffes ankle and him missed months.
I don't think it was a red card either, but there's no way it will be overturned. He went for O'Keeffe and he got him. It's usually a yellow, but in this instance the ref showed red. It's not embarrassing. What is embarrassing is a manager bairning about one of his players being sent off for deliberately fouling the opposition. It was a bit harsh, but that's all it was. If you don't want to get sent off, don't put your studs in the ankle of an opposition player. If you do, you'll always run that risk, and hopefully the young lad who did it will learn not to in future.
One of the reasons to really like Clarke, even if you don't think he's all that good a manager (although I imagine a few minds have been changed over the last couple of games) is that he doesn't come out with any of this bullshiit. Not even close. Even when we lose badly, his very worst is to blame his own players, and to be honest, he's not wrong. We might think he should take a bit more responsibility at times, but it's not fantasy, he reads a game like we all read it. And he does it consistently.
This is true. We’ve screamed for someone who just calls it as it is - and Clarke does, every game. He’s not perfect, and still learning, but he’s only half a season in with us. If he was any better, he wouldn’t be a L1 manager with us. He and the squad are growing and learning together.
Penalty was poor on our part. Ball was heading to no man’s land’s and we gave the ref a decision to make
And usually you see that "decision to make" every game of every week at corners. None of them make it. Until today
It’s a weird one that pen. It is a pen, every day of the week. But they are never given so that’s where the frustration comes in. There’s been games this season where we should have had several penalties for very similar challenges, but deemed not enough.
