I hope we have our targets identified and ready to go next week and are not waiting till the last couple of days to save a few quid as per usual.
You know that won't be the case. Its the Barnsley way,we will get a loan goalie and a striker at the end of the window.
They are likely to be identified, but will also be likely to be dependant on other deals being done before they are possible.
More important to get our injured players back.A couple of decent loanees to strengthen the squad and that should be us ready to go.
Do we still have a interest in the lad from Go Ahead Eagles there was a rumour he was at the home game v Rotherham
For comparison we need a left wing back as competition for Gent. Huddersfield have signed one to go through as soon as January hits, so deals can be done early.
I'll say this again, we signed the worst player I've ever seen 30 minutes into the January window in 2014, and arguably the best loanee we've had in the final hour of the 2017 one. There's no rhyme or reason to it. We either sign the right players or we don't.
in January 2021, we were crying out for a powerful striker and signed Carlton Morris early in the window. Also, later signed Liam Kitching and got Daryl Dyke on loan - contrary to cuddly Paul - it was probably our best transfer window in recent memory and we all know the results. Amazing what happens when you have a football person in charge of recruitment.
There's no way of knowing. The club aren't and shouldn't make deals that are lined up public knowledge - it gives other clubs opportunity to move in on the players and fans would be writing someone off before the guy's even signed (happens anyway tbh). Plus deals rarely happen in isolation. A left back we could be interested in might only be able to leave his club if they're able to bring someone else in for example. Or a player might not want to move early in the window because he might think other options could become available later on the month.
I still think there's deals to be done even in the lower leagues. £500k could get you someone near the top of the scoring charts in League 2.
I don't think we wait until the last couple of days to save a few quid. It's just how the January transfer market works. The domino effect of players moving right at the end of the window allows other players further down to now move, etc. I think I'm right in saying most of the business gets done across the leagues in the last few days of January.
It'll be an interesting window because we have a have decent squad. If anything it's too big and too unbalanced. I'd be tempted to sell a couple of players to balance the books and play Nwakali and Yogananthan more. Maybe sign two strikers to dovetail with Watters and Humphry's.
It’s certainly unbalanced - I think we need to move a few on, over and above Slonina who’s apparently already gone back, to free up some funds/wages.
