Problem is, the type of people to sing this song would love being booed and will end up singing it purely for that reaction. A better response would be a chant that is supportive of JAQ in response but there’s very little chance of that taking off. Realistically, it needs people who are part of that group to be brave and say ‘this song’s crap’, and to redirect the singers onto a different song.
Anyone heard that Leeds song about there Israeli player? To the same song as we used to sing to Norwood contains the words "and he hates Palestine"
Wasn't just being sung in the ground either, it was getting repeatedly sung in Stamford outside pubs. It wasn't just the usual mob singing, there were plenty of fans who I would usually think were a bit more level headed joining in including girls and women. It was the only disappointing thing about a good day out and positive result.
I was there yesterday & must admit I didn't realise that the Julie was a reference to JAQ, I'm not sure that I am alone in that. I think it will be very hard to stop that song now as it was probably the most popular on the day. Perhaps the best thing to do is to try and co-opt it by joining in but change the words when you sing it. 'I don't care about Wednesday, They don't care about me'? Chants on the terraces have a life of their own, and often change over time. Trying to ban anything rarely works.
I think part of the issue is that alot of the people post the chants on twitter congratulating themselves, saying how great it is. Challenge it/ call it out for what it is and you’re “woke”. Some of the simplistic excuses I’ve read are just baffling. “She’ll look at her bank account and get over it” “It’s just a chant”. “Don’t own a football club then”.
The idiots who sing this song probably subscribe to the Andrew Tate school of thought. There is no need for this behaviour and I can almost guarantee that they would not have the nerve to say this to her face.
I refuse to sing it - embarrassing really. She put in £360k during the summer, which helped pay for the DKD move no doubt. Yes, some may not be happy with the red shorts etc, but at she tries to do her best for the club. A few mistakes maybe, but done trying to do something different. Last season’s stars shirt was likely the highest selling shirt since the Prem League, and certainly brought a lot of attention to the club. And she’s really pushed on with the ladies and girls side of the club, which is important to all the young lasses out there trying to play the game.
First thing the club should do is announce that the fans singing it will now not be rewarded with safe standing. **** em. Use the money to benefit everyone else instead. The morons need punishing bit regarding
That's why it frustrates me so much that for all it's bluster and weekly announcements over the pa system the club has done very little to actually address the bad behaviour from a certain section of our fans. They could and should have nipped it in the bud ages ago by banning people who caused trouble. Instead they've allowed it to go on and on and are planning to actively reward those who do it with safe standing. It's completely bonkers.
Gangway 1 laugh at the announcements about CCTV in operation, as they know it's weak words and nothing gets done.
Not sure what your point is here, I'm hoping you're not trying to divert focus from our problem with the misogynistic morons.
It’s simply because none of them can justify why they sing it at all, never mind the timing, ie playing really well and in the process of winning our second away fixture in just a few days. id love for anyone that travelled to Peterborough to tell me why they call someone they don’t know a ‘slag’. Would they appreciate some stranger calling their mothers, who most of them still live at home with, the same? What would be their reaction? These lads let themselves down badly, actually filming themselves singing it. They’ve a lot of growing up to do
I tried to engage with one such ‘fan’ on Twitter to try and re-educate and realised what an absolute waste of time it is trying to talk to some people. Shockingly (!!) he could not offer a reason for singling out JAQ and not Neerav, or even Flatman/Sormaz. We know what motivates it. They can deny it all they like. Pathetic.
Yes. I think it’s racist. They’ll argue it’s not but we all know if they had a Russian player they wouldn’t be signing ‘hates the Ukraine’
