We were sat in the airport yesterday morning watching news come in of the Korean plane crash. Does make you think a bit! However, driving on motorways these days is a lot more risky I’d say.

Daft as it sounds, statistically it’s safer to fly after a disaster. All staff are extra vigilant and cautious and if there is any doubt about anything flights will be cancelled.

It might sounds stupid but I like to remind myself that every plane crash makes air travel safer because they will 100% make changes to stop what's happened from happening again

I seem to remember two major accidents within a couple of weeks of each other when I was in Australia. Summer 98 or 99 IIRC. They were rare enough even then but they're so rare now that when it does happen it really sticks in the mind.

Am not being funny but does your friend HAVE to fly? If its that scary/upsetting does it need doing?

Just tell them they are in more danger statistically driving to the airport than in the air.
Motorways statistically safest roads, rural roads Like driving over Woodhead are the most dangerous roads in the UK.
So once in the airport your over the most dangerous part of the journey.
Just kind words and understanding helps.

No other way to get to Lanzarote in the time available. Tbh thought she’d got past this but recent events seem to have intensified the fear.
I actually like flying, especially if there’s a view from the window, although I do find the whole airport process quite stressful.

I'm guessing if it's essentially a irrational fear then rational statements aren't going to help.

I don't fear flying. It's being powerless if owt goes wrong. That's it. No point hiding under seat or in the bog. Waiting to die for want of a better term. Same goes for sailing. You could swim for it but get eaten by ravenous Sharks. I suppose out of the two if I was given the choice I'd take the plane crash over being eaten by sharks.

Maybe explains why I've never been abroad.

It's not falling that kills you. It's hitting floor.
