    Major overkill in my opinion, did a good job but come on had some very talented players at his disposal

    Plenty of England managers had very talented players at their disposal. 2 semi finals and two finals is still the greatest ever achievement by an England manager.
    That being said, he wasn’t particularly inspiring, and even if you said we were getting him as Barnsley manager tomorrow, I wouldn’t be too excited.

    Tories though used to hand em out like confetti.

    The lists tell a striking story: during the Conservatives’ 14 years in office between 2010 and 2024, at least 110 sitting MPs were given knighthoods or damehoods.

    This compares to just 11 sitting MPs who were given such honours by the last Labour government between 1997 and 2010.

    A businessman and former Egyptian government minister who donated £5m to the Conservative party last year was unexpectedly given a knighthood on the recommendation of Rishi Sunak

    In 2022 the former education secretary Gavin Williamson was awarded a knighthood despite presiding over the 2020 exam grading fiasco and a botched reopening of schools during the Covid-19 pandemic.

    In 2023, Andrea Jenkyns received a damehood in Boris Johnson’s resignation honours list. She had only served as a junior education minister for a few months (though still found time to cause controversy when she raised a middle finger to protesters while entering Downing Street).



    I dislike the honours system to a degree. I much prefer pride of Britain awards in general. Those that selflessly. like Kevin that create great awareness and contribution.

    The amount of stupid picks over the years has really diluted what should be an honour. Couldn't really care less now.

    Voted a third term as mayor. Despite all the hostility from the mail and express. Guess he must appeal to the voters. As for would I be happy. It's immaterial As he doesnt serve me. I vote for the Mayor of south Yorkshire. And would put pen to whoever I thought would serve us best. Just happens to be labour.

    Congratulations to Gareth. Amazing job as Emgland manager. While I think the honours system is completely ridiculous I also think the hate Southgate gets is even more ridiculous.

    The best manager most can remember but daren't admit for some odd reason.

    I don't think the players at his disposal were as good as folk make out and he got us to a semi final and two finals. Incredible achievement and a great man - one of sports best redemption stories considering '96.
