He had an incredible squad at his disposal. Best striker in world, 2 of the best attacking midfielders in world, one of best sitting midfielders in world, one of, if not the, best right wingers in the world, one of the best centre backs in the world, 4 incredible right backs, list goes on
Kevin Sinfield was awarded the OBE fairly recently, there is a time protocol between further awards...his Knighthood is in the pipeline.
He also brought the team together, stood up to the racism received by Sterling, Rashford etc - which is ironic really, considering a certain contribution in this thread. He made me believe again, and actually got me to actually like us - something that was impossible whilst dckheads like Terry, Cole, Gerrard etc were playing.
Sir Alf Ramsey 1966 WC winner Sir Gareth Southgate Euro runner up x 2 Imagine if Tuchel wins it in 2026 should he be given an honoury knighthood as a non British citizen.
True. He will get one eventually, but he's raising money in memory of his good friend. Many raise cash for brilliant causes they don't have a link to, just because they want to.
I can’t believe the New Years honours list is still a thing. Whilst not enough to lose any sleep over I do lose a bit of respect for anyone that takes one.
It’s crazy because if two players score penalties in the final against Italy he gets knighted & no one complains. It wouldn’t mean he’s done any better job. I supported him & think he did a good job for the most part. However Euro 24 was a shambles & we were incredibly lucky to get as far as we did. Not taking any fit left backs, the balance of the midfield & playing a clearly knackered Kane should have cost us long before it did. Watching every team we played leave Trippier in space so that we would have to pass to him & then he would have to go back because he had no left foot or the pace to go past someone was soul destroying. Some of the most tedious games I’ve ever watched. And whether people like it or not that was the last set of games Southgate managed us for so it’ll be what he’s mainly remembered for.
Yep and the record books still say 'Final' and those games you mention still show 'Win'. If we'd have beaten Spain in the Final nobody talks about those games either. So the point stands - he's the most successful England manager in fifty years and deserves everything he gets.
Well at least you didn’t even try to veil your racism here. That’s about all I can give credit for - honesty. Because the rest is abhorrent
