Writing this as a bit of a journey for myself really and you’re all free to ignore it, but hopefully it will be cathartic and might help me keep on track as potentially you will be judging me.

I drink far, far too much and although it doesn’t really affect my life currently except financially, I’m clearly doing long term damage to my body and it’s a significant factor in why I’m overweight.

This month is hopefully going to be my reset with alcohol to allow me to drink much more infrequently and in moderation.

I will post a bit of something everyday, and if anyone else if doing it feel free to chip in.

1st January, did well as I went to a family meal/party at the in laws which is 500 yards from my house. Would have been easy to have a couple, but I drank ginger beer and a glass of Nozeco instead.
Found it really difficult to fall asleep last night though.

    30 to go.

I’ve done dry January a few times over the years, you do feel far better after it too…….a think lots of people over indulge over the festive break but a reset won’t hurt at all.

I’m a classic binge drinker, teatotal (by and by) Sunday - Friday but then if the reds are away I’ll have a good go at an away game, home games I either taxi my daughter who works at oakwell or take my younger daughter to the games.

This last month I’ve discovered that drinking Guinness and beer doesn’t give me a hangover like larger which is great but god a feel like a house end today :D I’m going to have till the 18th off then I’ve a few bits on so will be having a few then.

Drinking is great when controlled, I’ve seen the damage it does when not controlled and it’s frightening.

Good luck mate and I will look out for you daily blogs :)

I'm currently debating a wet January. I bought loads of cider for Christmas and drank maybe 5-6 cans over the entire period. But I'm too tight to just let them go off and pour them away... Although tbf, I haven't drunk more than 2 pints in a night for a decade when I realised I couldn't do it any longer without a bad hangover.

Good luck mate. I don't really like the binge abstain approach, but I have cut down on drinking generally, every month. Basically, I try not to drink Mon-Thurs. Steady away then Fri and Sat. I can't handle hangovers lately; they hurt too much and last too long, so I'm happy to be a lighter drinker. I seem to enjoy it more too. Having said all that, there is always @Bossman annual halloween party to look forward to ......

It's not alone. Dark beers and stouts seem to work as a low alcohol or even zero alcohol brew. There are a few decent independent ones out there and the Atlantic one they used to sell at Oakwell was decent too.

Categorically the best 0% of any drink, went to a wedding last year and I was driving, actually tastes great if you still want that taste and feel of having a few

All the best old mate. I’ve gone a bit mad myself the last couple of weeks and I feel fat and tired.

I do think I’ve copped for a chest infection which isn’t helping how I feel of course but I certainly intend to reign it in a bit, eat a bit better, and get to the gym more.

I’m looking forward to your updates!

I'm doing dry January as I also drink far too much!

If I've had a boozy weekend, and I frequently do, the first night sans alcohol is always a shitty nights sleep.

+1 for Guinness zero, quite a nice drink.

I find walking is more effective. I like to do 10,000 steps before I put any crap in my body now. Binge drinking only effects my mood when I feel I have energy to burn.

Try and go any time without a big football match dry. Monday, Wednesday ,Friday and some Sundays are my dry days. Along with Friday and Saturday when I spend time with George.

Good luck mate. Before I had my knee replacement I thought I would lose some weight as my knee was really giving me some gyp so I cut down on the drink first month then packed up altogether after that lost 30lbs and it doesn’t even bother me not drinking. No more hangovers and cheaper.

One of my friends is 15 years sober as of 1st Jan... You can do it!! But if there are blips along the way some days without booze will still have it's benefits
