Heard him refer to the Windass goal as ‘the goal of football’ and also said something like ‘it will undoubtedly get the Puskas award’ Each sheffield Wednesday call lasted a good few minutes than the other teams, including Stanton’s solo analysis of each call, which he reserved only for Wednesday calls. ‘The goal of football’ he’s a right plonker
To be fair to Windass - it’s a good goal from distance and takes some perception. But it is just a punt, compared to the technique involved in Barnard’s volley for example, or Paddy McCort’s dribble.
The guy's a complete muppet. He seems to gets quite angry with anyone who dares to challenge his view by putting up a reasonable counter argument. In fact I've heard him get really worked up before. He shouldn't be anywhere near a microphone.
It was a fantastic goal and does deserve all the praise that it gets, I'd love to see one of our players score a similar goal. John McDonald many years ago is the nearest long ranger that I can think of for us
He's a Wednesday fan, not listened for seasons. They let the Sheffield clubs callers let them call us Dingles on air but any derogatory comment towards them is soon cut short.
It was a good hit that takes good technique (and a wayward keeper), but it was not ‘the goal of football’ There’s loads harder types of goal to score.
Yeah in season '86. I gave up on Radio Sheff Fc and Hallam Fm, many years ago now, because I also got sick of their awful biased coverage of the Sheffield clubs.
He turns the airwaves into Twitter. Not good journalism. Giddings and Oxley on the other hand are brilliant and balanced. I can see Giddings as a MOTD regular before long.
Me too but to be fair the clue is in the name…..Radio Sheffield. The Fowls bias has always been embarrassing.
Giddings is awful with his Shouty commentary that makes you think someone has scored and seconds go past without you know what has happened.
That's what they and their fans always said though. That the clue is in the name, and that they have to cater to the majority (the 'bigger' teams with the most fans). And whether that seems unfair, sorry but its the way we do it etc!!. And Ytv and Bbc have always been appalling with it, its totally unprofessional to other teams/fans in the area.
Stopped listening to Radio Sheffield when Staton couldn’t take any feedback. He thinks he’s the best thing since sliced bread.
I’m not his biggest fan. Had a couple of run ins with him on twitter before. I find him a bit condescending.
