IF.......we went up, and it's not beyond possible, we would have to strengthen at a cost I just don't see our owners extending to. The gulf in lower mid Championship to us is scarey and I think they'd believe we could do it on the cheap. Perhaps we could be an Oxford, get battered by all the good teams, but beat all those down around them and maybe pull off a surprise survival, but they've not done it yet and it's rare.
The standard of the bottom 8 in the Champ is abysmal. Wednesday being midtable proves how poor that level is
Go up, every time. You don't know what's around the corner. Keep building in League 1 and lose Russell and Nwakali etc.
Promotion for sure, the boost in finances would make a huge difference even of it meant coming back down but being much stronger in L1. Ideally stay up but I'm realistic enough to know we'd be competing against some teams with ridiculous spending power.
Can’t imagine why anyone would want to stay in L1. It’s a horrible league. The longer you’re in it, the harder it is to get out and the further away you get from being competitive in the Champ
It really bugs me when fans say we're not ready yet, so lets hope we can consolidate this year, and have a go at promotion next year ehh. Which is absolute nonsense!!. We must be hoping for at least the Play offs in every season that we're in this division, and maybe sometimes the top two. Anything less, and you could then say what's the point.
Promotion should always be the aim, however I don't see life in League One as the end of the world, or proof of "managed decline". We're competing with clubs at a similar size, we probably belong between 35th and 50th in the pyramid. The quality of football is more important than league position to me, but if we play well enough we should be able to get promoted.
It’s got to be promotion. I remember posts on here asking if we were ready to be promoted to the premier league under Val. Unbelievable. Imagine the difference in finances from (at the minimum) 4 seasons of premier league money. We should know how it works by now. The further down the pyramid we are the easier it is for us to lose our best players.
