We "lost" to Horsham last year. Actually we didn't lose, but we decided that we liked them and they deserved a go in the second round so played Marsh who was ineligible to play and we were kicked out.
Against Brimsgrove, as bad as we were Bromsgrove played us off the park for 80+ minutes. With football at it's best. Altrincham who I think you are referring to. Our players didnt even bother turning up. Sunday league side would have beat us. As for more common, I'm not so sure. Certainly not the giant killings of yesteryear. Hereford. Newcastle Sutton utd. Coventry Wrexham Arsenal. Etc. Up to the 3rd rd many lower league clubs lost to minnows as long as I can remember. Eg v Rhyl 1971. 3 fekkin goes it took em to beat us.
Thanks for sharing it here @onemickybutler - it's on my Barnsley FC on this day in history X account. Forgive the shameless plug but.... gis a follow if you're on X, it's @BarnsleyFCOTD. Alternatively, there's also a page on Facebook - Barnsley FC - On this day in history.
We couldn't get tickets but travelled anyway and stayed in the pub all day. On the way home we went the wrong way down the M40 and stayed in Oxford for the night. The F.A. cup was massive back in the day.
I already follow on X mate. Great job you do and it brings back a lot of memories. I’m not on Facebook though.
I hadn't got a ticket, had yto go to work in the morning, drove down from Cumbria in my suit, got to the ground, bought a programme and started looking for trees to climbe to watch the game, saw one of outr players outside, cant remember which.....in a panic i had to look who it was in the team sheet, said Ive driven down with no ticket, he got me a ticket so I was in.....we were battered, a reply was the least they deserved, i remember the Barnsley fans not being to kind to the incident in the stand where someone died and also the embarrasing behavour at the end....but all in all a very memorable day.....
Credit to @kendraytyke for posting this the first time around Everyone should watch it, it should be on the video nasties list - it was worse than I remembered from being there in person, we were awful (and it still wasn't as bad as Altrincham) 34.30, 1.34.50 and 1.37.47 for the goals
Alls well that ends well. How can a team with so much talent in it perform like a team of blokes who'd just come out of the pub.
Was it Payton or did he keep missing? Remember the day well one working toilet for about three thousand of us
Worst game I've ever been to, for reasons I've mentioned many times on here. Nearly stopped me going to games.
