Kitching style too good to refuse £5 million plus or don’t sell. Plenty of time to find a buyer who can afford him on the summer if necessary.
Phillips is good but wouldn't make my top 10 been watching 45 years. Glavin Banks Gray Geddis Taggart Redfearn De Zeeuw Hignett Hammill Hourihane Only my opinion of course all better players and played at a higher level
It was in January 2017, 8 years ago. Hourihane's contract was up in June of that year. Patrick wanted him to stay and sign a new contract. We were told that he was offered £14k a week, so keen was Patrick to keep him. Villa offered Hourihane possibly twice that amount. Conor, understandably, was keen to go, and Patrick, reluctantly, accepted a £3.5 million offer, for someone who could have gone for nothing in June.
Isn't another key factor how much the coach /board rate him? Bearing in mind he has over 2 years on his contract it looks to me that the ball is in Barnsley's court, however they want to play it. If they want to keep him they can and should. If they think they can sell and improve the overall team they can hold out for money. Its in Phillips interest not to throw the dummy out if there's interest now as it will fade if he doesn't play and perform. The board have got this right so far, whatever they are mulling. That's also assuming there's any truth to the rumour.
This isn't true. It's simply incorrect. We get good fees for our players. The best example is the amazing amount we got for Kitching.
£3.5m for Conor with 6 months left on his contract, are you sure? I always thought it was about £1.5m
All round play? he was largely anonymous until you gave him the ball around the edge of the area and he would score or assist. Exactly like Phillips. Levels they played at are different but there’s this weird notion that once he’s gone we might suddenly get a better player who’s output in all reality is likely to be much less than Phillips - but for some I guess it’s a case of you don’t know what you have until it’s gone. yes I am as mad as box of frogs. Thanks.
A more accurate answer would be my top 5 L1 players. Glavin, Banks, Futcher, Hignett, Currie, Ward, Hourihane, Hammill ......... all favourites and at a higher level. Whether we will see Phillo with us in the Champ going forward, I doubt, but if I do see that happen then yes, he'll be up there in the top bunch.
I would lay down a starting price of £5 million, see how that pans out. Why should we sell on the cheap when he has years left on his contract
Isn’t there a release clause? Thought part of the reason he signed a new deal was to have one inserted
It’s how it is in modern football, Clubs insert sell-on clauses and options to extend contracts, players insert release clauses.
If you think Phillips is as good a Higgy then you need your bumps felt. Nothing wrong with Phillips but I can’t imagine he’ll score a goal every other game in the championship even if he played for Leeds.
