I went too, was scary with all trouble for us that got there on time, terrible about lad that got slashed with knife. What a night it was though, 17/18000 of us there, we had more fans there than them, unreal to take so many fans. We were a very very good side back then, better than team that got to premiership I thought. Tbh we were a lot better than Danny’s team although obviously that was a great team too.

Never tire of telling that to any Liverpool fans (genuine or Sky plastics) I meet. Not many can say that about their club even many so called bigger ones.

My cousin took me just after my dad(Barnsley through and through and the reason I've supported our great club for 60 years).
    had died
Parked across Stanley Park and saw the last 25 minutes.
Up there with the proudest day of my life as a Barnsley fan

Yes I agree, I think they had a bit of steel about them and absolute quality. No real weakness from top to bottom. I would have loved to have seen them in the First Division, I reckon they'd have done well.

Didn’t Paisley say subsequently that we were the best team to play there that season?
Took over 17000, 200 coaches and outplayed them. We only went behind late on in the replay I think.

I remember the fev lot rocking up P. With 20 minutes or so left. They had the skylight put through on the bus b4 they got there.
We missed 1st 20 mins. Parked up and had to pay local scrotes to look after the car so to speak .
Then all of the violence after the game. the services as coaches pulled in looked like A&E
Given the fact the scouse moronic element caused mayhem and ruined their so called good reputation. one or 2 of our fans got stanley knifed. (The picture on the back page of the Daily Mirror the next morning was horrific. The lads back looking like a patchwork quilt) it didn't spoil what was imo the best away day ever in my time. (But tarnished it) . The game and our fans on 3 sides, made it so. The Liverpool fans in the ground (circa 14k) gave us a fantastic reception after the game, tbf.

That’s a great post. Went over with Mr Badger. Got attacked after game - like many others. Wide publicity and some very angry vengeful Reds fans waiting for the replay. Lots of pretty grim graffiti painted on the walls around Oakwell before the game about what was going to happen to Liverpool fans. Must have cost the Club a fortune in constantly trying to cover it up.

in the event, very few travelled over, though still quite a lot of incidents afterwards. Including the idiot who fired a 12 bore at the train around Darton. Ironically I ended up going to the final that year; Liverpool v Spurs. In the Liverpool end.

You were lucky, we saw the last 25 minutes. Had a smash on the fog-bound M62. We had the local Radio on and they were asking listeners to phone in with what they wished for in the New Year. A Barnsley fan rang in and said I’d like to get to the match saying I’m stuck on the M62 with hundreds perhaps thousands of fellow reds fans. The radio presenter seemed astounded by this

Remember going. Got there 5 minutes before kick off. One of my favourite days supporting the reds, when we used to shake em up. Not like the 7-0 this season

Half time when we got in ground. Lots of trouble after the game.
