R.I.P. Denis. You were, without any doubt in my mind, the greatest Scottish striker I've ever had the pleasure of seeing.
Sad news. A true great not only of Scottish football but of the British and European game. Still Scotland's leading goalscorer - jointly held with Kenny from about half as many games - and he retired over 50 years ago.
https://www.theguardian.com/football/2025/jan/17/denis-law-manchester-united-scotland-legend-dies Arguably the greatest Scottish Football player ever.
Always remember him scoring all 6 goals in a 4th round cup tie for Man City against Luton in a tie which was abandoned after about 75 minutes. In the replayed game Luton won 3-1 with Law again on the scoreboard, so he scored 7 goals and finished on the losing team. Luton lost to Barnsley 1-0 in the 5th round with a goal from Jackie Lunn. I was in the crowd that day for my first match at Oakwell. Saw Dennis at Oakwell 2 years later when we lost 4-0 to Man United in a game where Tony Leighton was stretchered off before subs were allowed. Imagine facing Law, Charlton and Best with 10 men for the greatest part of the game. RIP Dennis.
Privileged to have seen him at Oakwell in that FA Cup match in 1965, along with George Best and Bobby Charlton. They would never send stars like that to play us these days.
RIP weve lost one of the few true genuine legends of the game, exuberant personality on and off the field, his back heel goal for City to relegate United and no celebration is one of the most memorable moments of football history.
The holy trinity reunited the King of the Stretford End, who has passed away, aged 84. Rest in peace Denis Law.⭐️
I was at Leeds Road in November 1957 for what was one of my very first away matches - possibly the first. Denis Law was in the Huddersfield team which we thrashed 5-0. He was known as a star youngster at that time.
You were very privileged to be there, I was too young ha. Must have been similar to the great occasion when we played Liverpool down at Oakwell in the much talked about league cup quarterfinals replay. We lost both but happy memories mate
