Was DC right to reinstate the defence, or should he have made them fight for their place again? Personally I’d have gone with MDG, DP and CMc. And left Roberts and Earl to earn it back.
I'm definitely of the "don't change a winning team" school of thought. I'd only make an exception to that if the player returning from suspension/injury was Ronnie Glavin or Neil Redfern and maybe Adam Hammill or Craig Hignett.
Yup. Nothing against Roberts or Earl, but they need to earn it. And, surely to an extent, DP and CMc, both being younger, are ones who if capable, should be getting the game time instead of Roberts.
The defence had already been changed in the last game. Pines came in for McCarthy & did a good job against their target man whilst Earl also had a really good first half. He then made subs to manage their minutes & McCarthy & Roberts both looked really shaky so I don’t know how someone could argue Roberts shouldn’t come back in because he looked off it but then argue McCarthy should’ve come back in when he also looked off it.
