People can post whatever they like (within the forum rules). My post made no reference to free speech. I didn't suggest anyone do anything. I just said it's sad seeing folk jump on him all the time. Even in threads he's not involved in, his name gets mentioned. I don't like it. Each to their own. Personally, I don't usually respond.
Who mentioned selling DKD never heard that whatsoever, Phillips certainly that's what we do sell to survive it's no different from selling David Hirst 40 years ago. With regards to players yes we gambled on some duds that didn't work but people moaned when we signed players like Roberts and Pinnock who'd played non league, some work some don't, unfortunately it proved difficult to move some on meaning we are stuck paying wages that ideally we'd want for bringing other players in, whilst trying to move players out to free up funds ultimately we missed out on the bulk of our targets, it took us longer than expected to get Styles out the door. Unfortunately by this point we'd reached the latter part of the window and we were having to compete with what was left. It's a difficult task, people need to realise we can't always bring players in without generating funds by getting players out either for fees and/or freeing up wages.
Mr Scott's 'style' may not be to everyone's taste, but the point he makes is perfectly valid and, imo, absolutely true.
It's a thankless task tbh they are already in for goodness knows how much £10m + already and some. They have their faults but I do genuinely believe they try, they don't always get things right but show me who does. They aren't a bottomless money pit and even though we are a million miles away from it, it shouldn't be frowned up for owners to want to be prudent, break even or even make a small profit. The modern game/fan though aren't happy unless owners are keeping up with the Jones and splashing silly money making it harder and harder for clubs like us to compete. We've lost a game of football it's hardly a crisis, I get people get frustrated and upset but there's hardly context or balance these days, people won't look at things like a fanzone on the horizon, ground lease secured, 5th in the league, owners prepared to plug the financial loses. If they called it in tomorrow we'd be done, there would be very few people wanting to buy a business making significant loses with no assets
We have two saleable assets in Phillips and DKD imho, so it's a simple equation if as you say we have to sell before we buy then one or god forbid both will be sold or we won't sign a striker. So we have to take goals out of the squad to try and put goals back in it's a mess but it's a mess made in the board room. They might have good intentions but they are the reason we are in the situation we are in Yes they put money in but it's to cover the issues they created by following a policy several on here said wasn't sustainable in the way they implemented it and it's got us to this point.
I’m as frustrated as anyone on here about our lack of striker options, but it amazes me that people post with confidence that the board aren’t doing anything about it. Just because it hasn’t happened, doesn’t mean they’re not trying.
Can’t be just me who’s sussed him out early.probably likes us to win but gets a bigger kick when we lose just to wind proper fans who actually care
In terms of McAtee’s quantifiable stats, it’s arguable that DKD is a more than adequate replacement. Soccerbase has their respective stats at 15 goals in 45 games for McAtee last season compared with DKD’s 10 goals in 24 games for us so far this season. I agree though that we haven’t replaced that killer instinct that Cole possessed in the first half of last season and that’s evident with the clear cut chances that we're spurning game after game.
Tell me what's changed then whether it be these owners or previous owners from us selling players, Adam Phillips is no different to David Hirst, Carl Tiler, Conor Hourihane, Pinnock etc etc It's the same at most clubs there's a food chain, bid comes in that meets clubs valuation of said player, player wants to go, it's no different to how it's ever been, people moaned when we sold Andy Payton to Huddersfield for 300k We've an excellent ready made player in Nwakali if Phillips goes, and both you or I don't know who or what the club will bring in. January windows always go to the wire, judge us when the window closes not on the 18th Jan
I don’t know why folk are getting angry, Scott makes a good point, recruitment was & is still currently poor. Nothing has been learnt from previous failings thus far, although there is still time, but I won’t hold my breath. Just look around, teams who have promotion ambitions aren’t messing about, they are identifying targets & being ruthless by bringing them in. No messing about. & that’s the difference between mid table mediocrity & serious promotion challengers. We will be in this league for a while yet with our recruitment policy.
