I honestly thought he was half decent at the back end of last year. From scoring away at Fleetwood onwards. Poor before that, and definitely since.
That thread is an interesting read. Most were saying mid table, ergo, Clarke is performing above expectations. So if we lose a few games, let's not call for him to be sacked. And yes, I said ergo.
So he was utter ***** back then at a L2 club and someone at this club made a ******* awful decision to sign him, he's been ******* awful, end of discussion. He will be lucky to play professional football after this season. My 11 year old would offer more than him.
I was one of those who thought he was a good signing and hoped he would be good. But the truth is it's absolutely not worked. He's clearly bereft of any confidence, but unlike Watters, his all round game is severely lacking at the moment too. Watters is missing far too many big chances, but is at least getting into the right areas. Cosgrove just looks lost and the game passes him by. I've hoped and wanted this to work ever since he joined but it hasn't and he definitely needs moving on
It’s not like we signed him straight off the back of that loan At Wimbledon though. He had scored 12 goals and been part of Plymouths promotion squad when we signed him.
even worse than the Cosgrove saga is we had a full season to see how poor Watters was and they syill signed him. I actually feel a bit sorry for Cosgrove bevause they just dont use him right. Watters i just dont get at all. The odd flash in the pan in games but most of the time just doesnt seem to have the effort and finishing prowess required.
Harsh to criticise Watters on effort. Finishing, yes but he runs a lot and make himself available so at least he's always there to miss them. The thing that scares me most here, is the obvious lack of talent coming through at youth level. If we are stuck with Watters in the starting XI and Cosgrove on the bench every week, just how poor are the alternatives? You'd have to actively be shooting at the wrong goal to hamper our chances of victory any more than these two. (Knowing our lot, the DoF is probably reading this and on the phone to Neasden Town right now to enquire about Pevsner's availability!)
I thought Cosgrove would be good for us. Maybe not as a natural footballer or someone to score 20/25 goals at this level but to be a nuisance to the opposition and create openings for our other attackers. Sadly, at the minute, he’s offering nothing in games. I know he’s not getting loads of minutes but when he does get on, he doesn’t look bothered. I think he will be back in Scotland this time next month.
Agree about the lack of forwards from the academy. How many have we produced in the last 20 years that have gone on to have a decent career at professional level? Very, very few.
Yeah he's doing alot better than I expected after losing 5 regulars in the summer and his footballs miles better to watch than Collins so fair play to him.
None of whom work in football or had seen him play, someone at the club, who's job it is, thought he was good having seen all the data and I would hope having watched him.
In fairness if the club looked at his stats of 1-4 at Plymouth the season before and Aberdeen just over 1-2 over 4 seasons they are pretty decent. Add to that if they watched him at Plymouth (who were pretty good TBF) you can see what they might have seen in him.
See my response above to a similar comment. Obviously, I'm aware that people on here aren't part of our scouting network. It's dead easy to say a player is crap after it hasn't worked out.
