The Detractors

Reading much of the stuff on here is depressing. We have a hard core bunch, who come on here after a loss or bad performance, screaming for heads to roll. Be it the manager/coach, board and/or owners. They seem to relish prophesying in the club's demise if their gripes aren't realised. I am not a 'happy clapper' as they like to call those with a different opinion, I'd like to think I'm a realist. What riles me most about these people is that their ignorance, on how a football club is run, knows no bounds. I would like to think their derisory comments are borne of frustration.Shortly after the club came out of administration Patrick Cryne took up the reins in 2003.He set off on a path to ensure as far as possible that the club would not re-enter administration. The first rule of business is not what most think to make a profit, but to stay in business. This I believe has been the policy followed for the majority of the 20+ years. Whilst we may not make a profit we do not spend beyond the bank's agreed overdraft and thus we stay in business. I, and I hope many others like me, prefer to watch my hometown football team play in whichever football league than follow the likes of Bury into obscurity. So my message to the detractors is give your bleating and moaning a rest. Sacking the manager and getting rid of the current board and owners is not the route to success. Furthermore you only cause my depression to deepen.

Whilst I agree with much of your post, if you want to bring business principles into it, you would need to acknowledge that sustainability also relies upon customer satisfaction. I am by no means one of the ‘bleaters’ referred to, but I have to confess that I am pretty fed up with the club at the moment. Having been a season ticket holder for very many years, I find myself missing more home games than I attend. I have loved the club for the best part of sixty years, but I am honestly wondering whether I can justify going along with the way the club is being run for much longer.

 

But, there do not have to be only two methods of running a football club, it doesn't have to be either....
i) spend loads, go bust, cease to exist.
ii) spend nowt, show no ambition, bimble along.

we seem to favour the second option, it just needs tweaking a bit, so that the whole enterprise is a bit more fun?

 

We won 4 on the bounce not so long ago and it was all roses. Now 3 losses later we're back to sacking the manager and/or the board.

There's barely any middle ground view. We're a decent side that is woefully inconsistent and struggles to keep a clean sheet. We've played some good stuff and been awful.

 

I’m not advocating sacking anybody. I’m just bloody frustrated how bad our recruitment is to end up with the bloated oversize and lop sided squad that we have. A squad with zero pace across the board and no depth in key areas. It’s genuine neglect.
Not saying we need to spend money we haven’t got but just to spend what we can afford better.
The sooner real football people are identifying players the better. The spreadsheet and scattergun approach needs to stop asap.

I fully back Clarke, he can only work with what he has and haven't once called for him to go.
I agree we need to operate within our budget and we simply can't go spending money we simply don't have.
However if you can't see how poorly we are operating and being run then I'm not sure.
There a clubs in this division on far less resource than us making a much better fist of things, on the pitch we've no identity whatsoever despite a DOF being tasked to implement a single playing and coaching philosophy throughout the club.
Off the pitch we've now one of the biggest staffing structures I can ever remember yet still can't get some of the basics right around the matchday.
Our DOF Mladen Sormaz has, as we sit, currently had 106 days of transfer windows and preparation time either side of those windows to sign players that give the head coach a fair opportunity to win games of football, its poor very very poor and simply nowhere near good enough, this doesn't mean I want heads to roll but people need to get their fingers out of their *rses and start addressing some glaring issues.

I was just speaking with a mate earlier and we agreed that since social media took over the world there’s no middle ground in anything. If something isn’t working 100% as someone wants it, they behave like it’s not working at all.

 

Sack the tea lady too.

 

The next time we win three in a row (it could be a long wait), I'm going to call for the Board and DC to be sacked. That should confuse things.

Does that not point to poor coaching?

If by your own admission the players are capable and we are then not seeing that regularly and seeing too many awful showings like this week, is that not proof a part of the issue is poor organization and coaching?
